The only Droid that is maybe better than the Moto X is the Droid MAXX. The Ultra is pointless and the Mini is just the Ultra shrunk down to be even more compact, but even then, the Mini makes more sense than the Ultra.

Try Textra. It supports group messaging with iPhone's and is also able to receive and send emojis to/from iPhone users (you need to download the Textra emoji plugin for this). To enable group messaging with iPhone's you simply just enable it in the Textra settings. Try that and see how it works.

It was the same way yesterday. I got the update at noontime yesterday and when I checked my battery stats at midnight, Android OS was around 60%. I just did a factory reset to see if that fixes it. Hopefully it was just a Google Sync or services issue that won't happen again.
