Unable to get to a screen to load rom

I have my phone rooted, did a nandroid backup, and downloaded a custom rom which I then moved to my SD card. When I try to restart into recovery mode using the power button and home button pressed at the same time the only options I get are to wipe data or continue booting. There's nothing about picking a rom to install. Did I miss something here? I've read two guides and both of them indicated I just needed to start up with the buttons pressed.

I'm on a Sprint Hero with 2.1 in case that matters.

I got it through command line, no big problems. I have my ROM loaded now.
