Can someone explain the difference between a Kernel and a ROM? I know a ROM has apps, wallpapers, desktops but if I download a ROM does it have a Kernel?

I have a Rooted Droid running OTA Froyo. I used Easy Root to root so I have ROM Manager too.

What is a good source for both a Kernel and ROM?

Well my explanation is this that 2.1 aka Eclair is tied to Kernel 2.6.29 which a kernel contains drivers for the hardware like the SD Card, Sound, Display, cpu and gpu *just to name a few*. The Rom would be build like 2.1 or 2.2.. Usually the Roms include the Kernel...

As for a good source, you can download the source code for Android 2.2 from android.com *google*. As for your phone, you can do a google search or even check Motorola's website to see if they have the source code available for download.
