Latest firmware compatible with Xperia Play?
Sorry if this isn't the right place for this, new here. My iPhone recently broke, it's front and back cracked (the innards of the phone are actually exposed on the back, I've had a case on it for months) and it's going to cost my $50 to repair the front and $20 for the back. I'm not up for a discounted upgrade until April of next year. I'm currently deciding between getting a used phone or paying for the repairs.
I had an old Ally a few years ago and enjoyed it, even if the phone itself was slow. Is the Play any faster? And what is the latest android firmware it supports? Are there any other older phones you'd recommend that might be <$70 used?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Re: Latest firmware compatible with Xperia Play?
Welcome to Android Central! The Play's final Android version was 2.3.4, although you could always try to flash higher versions if you root it (which I don't have any experience with). I had a Play for a little while that I used only as a game and web-surfing device, because I received it as a gift from someone who worked at Sony. It was a nice little phone, fairly snappy performance for its time. Games worked well, but not many Playstation certified titles ever became available for it. It also doesn't have much memory for app installation (I think it was around 300-400 MB, which is paltry compared to later phones with a 3 GB partition dedicated to app storage, and current devices that can install apps on the entire available storage area).
There are a few somewhat decent old phones on sale at DailySteals.com right now for around $60: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]. The original Droid Incredible is still a fairly functional phone (my brother still uses one), but that phone is also stuck on Gingerbread.
