Here are the first photos I have taken with the Xperia Z2. This just came in a few hours ago and these are all taken in Superior Auto. None of these have been modified!

More photos here and I will keep adding! https://flic.kr/s/aHsjVXogrK

A few notes:
  • The Xperia Z2 supports the Tmobile AWS bands in 4G and LTE
  • There are some bugs that need to be worked out. For example, viewing photos after taking a photo pulls up the keyboard and pictures don't rotate
  • MOST ANNOYING SO FAR - For some stupid reason, Exchange email requires a password instead of a PIN-code. WTF?! I heard this was an issue with KitKat on Xperia devices
  • The white version hides fingerprints on the back panel really well!
  • Auto brightness settings are unpredictable. Sometimes when viewing a picture, it gets dark in the photo app

Which seller did you order from, also does it include headphones and a dock?

I was tempted to order from eBay but it was around $875! I instead had my friend from Taiwan buy it for me and then ship it. Saved me $100. The one I got did come with headphones and charger but no dock :(

Yeah, everything running fine for you on T-Mobile? It appears that the device has every necessary T-Mobile frequency included.

Yes everything works perfectly fine for T-mobile in both HSPA+ and LTE. No issues in terms of reception. As posted in the XDA Forums, I have some new photos up:

More photos posted this morning when walking to my and getting into work!

More photos and will continue to update here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjVXogrK

The photos are definitely an improvement over the Z1 and Z1 Compact but the photos still come out either too overexposed or darker than I'd like which was an issue on the previous devices. There is an update coming soon so I hope they address that.

Overall the camera does a decent job and I have yet to try them in manual mode. Will keep continue to post photos when I get a chance! It's tough playing with a new toy in a busy work day!

If you can shoot a 4K video, that would be great. I'm curious if the video is better than what we saw from the Mobile Congress show.

As requested, here are some 20MP photos and comparison to 8MP. Keep in mind you won't really notice the difference between the two unless you view it at full resolution. I have more photos posted here as well as the full res: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjVXogrK

And I was playing with background defocus. It's pretty cool (even though I kinda screwed it up)!

Nice pix. How about a 4K video? Can you upload to YouTube? This is where I've seen a big issue with the Z2, the 4K videos just haven't been impressive. But these were pre-production units, so maybe they solved whatever issues were causing the problem.

As requested, here is a 4K video sample. I apologize if it sucks because I did this outside of my office at work in an area where there really isn't that much to look at. I will have a better recording when I get home:

Thanks Louie. The video looked better than what I had seen coming from the show. However I still hear that kind of 'compressed' sound in the video that I heard in the Mobile Congress videos. I'm wondering if there's some kind of noise cancellation that's causing this.

Re: Xperia Z2 First Impressions and First Photos Taken

Took these photos from lunch yesterday at a place I eat regularly. These were taken with the Xperia Z2 (with the new firmware 17.1.A.2.55 that was just released):

Now here are photos taken back when I had the Z1...

The Z2 was taken during lunch, but I wasn't sitting by the window so it was all indoor lighting.

The Z1 was taken during dinner, almost at the same place where I sit and it was also with indoor lighting. I don't have any recent pictures taken with the Z1 since December so I'm not sure if any new firmware updates improved the camera but you can pretty much see why I was frustrated with the Z1 as most pictures taken indoors looked terrible.

As for benchmarking...

Antutu benchmark in case anyone is wondering. Just did this test while working on my review. Interesting to see that Antutu rates the Note 3 higher than the Z2.

But then again, you have to take these benchmarks with a grain of salt especially with Samsung products involved ;)

Where did you get the new firmware update? My Z2 shows no update available.
