Yes I am probably living in a dream world but if this phone ever makes it to Verizon I am all over it. Finally a "mini" version with the innards of it's flagship brother (outside of the screen). Anyone know when we might hear anything about a us carrier?

Heh. I'd like it on Sprint. Wish me luck.

In all seriousness, if it shows up in the US in an unlocked version that can use AT&T (and ideally, T-mobile) bands, I will consider it.

Yes, yes it does. I am equivocal about the new Moto x but the compact z3 is a phone I could really live with. I don't like Tmobile but I would even consider leaving for this phone or buying unlocked.

According to Clove the Z3C has bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20 for LTE.

No idea which ones Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile etc use, but there you have it. Hope it helps.

I believe AT&T's LTE bands are 2 (1900), 4 (1700/2100), 5 (850), and 17 (700).

And, per GSM Arena, it looks like there may be three phone variants. We would need D5803 for AT&T:

LTE 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600 - D5803

LTE 700 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 - D5833

LTE 2300 TD-LTE - D5833

From Sony's Whitepapers

D5803
UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20)

D5833
UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 28)
TD LTE Band 40

So yes, D5803 for AT&T. Clove sells the D5803 so for those who want it in the States and are with AT&T, I'd suggest you take advantage of the low price promotion + free accessories. I would not expect this phone to arrive on any US carrier and from Sony's website it will be considerably more expensive.

Ok.... so based on this information- will the unlocked version work on Verizon? I know they are CDMA, but they also operate on the 4 and 13 LTE bands. Is that enough to be able to function properly?

I doubt it. CDMA. Also, Verizon needs to approve phones on its system.

Verizon needs to approve phones on it's system.....is that why they never get a lot of the sweet phones but AT&T gets almost everything? AT&T doesn't have to "approve" every singe one?

nah, they don't get a lot of good phones because they use CDMA (it's the same with Sprint). ATT/Tmo use the GSM standard that most everyone else use.

Agreed. It's one reason why I got out of Sprint years ago because of CDMA. The main other reason was, my CDMA phone would literally run out of battery in Canada within hours when it was roaming before I knew it as the phone would already be off. When I switched to GSM carriers, I didn't have this issue.

GSM is worldwide standard, so you do have the freedom. Keep in mind, you rather have an unlocked phone rather than the carrier branded locked ones.
