unbelievably scratched camera lens

The lens of the camera on my z3 compact became badly scratched within a week or purchase. Its so bad that i dont really bother taking photos anymore. i've tried to pull off any film left on the lens, as it almost looks as though its a soft plastic that is scratchong... But there is nothing there.
Anyway, if anyone has advice, i'd love to hear it!

Welcome to Android Central! I'm not sure about the Z3 Compact, but the HTC One M8 has a similar issue where an oleophobic coating on the camera lens would get easily scratched. Buffing it out with a very mild abrasive like toothpaste (apply small amount with a Q-tip, rub it in, then buff out with a microfiber cloth, just like waxing your car) helped with the M8, so you could give that a try.
