The issue is weird, it works absolutely fine on 3G but never registers on 2G / GSM only. t tries to register...even shows up in manual search as home network...but does not register - even no error...see screenshots.

this is purchased from dubai and using it in India. its absolutely unlocked as checked in service info menu as well

my sam sim cards works ok in any other phone.

another Vodafone sim shows same issue on my phone...so i suspect phone issue

Welcome to Android Central! Are those custom nav buttons? Just want to make sure we're talking about the right platform here.:)

Go to Settings>Mobile Networks>Preferred Network Type, and make sure it includes 2G/GSM.

Under Settings->Wireless and Data click on "more". Under that, click on "Internet Settings" and make sure that your preferred network (Vodafone) is selected. Also check under "mobile network settings" and make sure that LTE is selected.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. tried that and though i can see the option to select Vodafone 2G (it even has an home icon besides it) i am unable to register...keeps trying to 'registering on network' and finally says 'unable to connect to network, try after some time'

should i reflash my baseband as i am vary of flashing the whole OS as i just reset the whole phone and rebuilded it app by app...

OK, i now believe it could be a base band issue and repair / re-flash could help me...but...What would really like to know is - if i flash / re-flash actually, the same base band (only) again on to the phone using flash tool...will it reset my phone, will it work....how to only flash base band?

Why? - i dont have patience to to a full repair using sony companion as i recently truid to fix the problem using the hard reset way and just managed to set up my phone fully just a few days back...not again

OK, so i took the plunge and

1. downloaded the correct firmware for myd5803 - unbranded MENA(arabic) version (as per my custumisation info)
2. flashed just the base-band from my FTF (3 amss files)
3. checked that baseband name was same as before after flash (which is fine as I wanted reflash)

BUT NO DIFFERENCE in my issue

Am I missing anything here?

should I take further risk and flash another firmware, maybe from other d5803...France or Russia, maybe Latin America OR just try my luck with the India d5833 base-band...i know LTE would never work but I don't need that...HAS anyone heard of a bricked phone due to wring baseband, I mean i can always return back to stock right???
