T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z3 unlocking?

I'm trying to unlock my Z3 but when I insert a sim card from a different carrier the menu to put the code doesn't come up? I contacted T-mobile and they told me to use the Device Unlock app that came preinstalled but I always end up with errors. Is there anyway to force the sim unlock menu to pop up so I can type in the code? I heard that you can dial a code in the dialer and it'll pop up? Thanks for any help!

It was and I basically had to get their service with a $100 refill. I don't have their service available in my area so I just sold the phone online and bought an unlocked one.
