I was using Gmail app for email and hadn't set up the stock email until today. Now, I get notified by both Gmail app and stock email when I get mail bc I use my Gmail account on the stock email app on phone. How do I fix this?

Which one do you prefer to use? You can turn off notifications in individual apps. For the Gmail app, open it, swipe in from the left, tap Settings, then your Google account. Uncheck the Notifications box.

For the stock Email app, open it, tap Menu, then Settings, then go to the Gmail account settings, and look for an option to turn off notifications there (sorry, I don't have detailed steps because I don't use the stock Email app).

This worked! I am trying the stock email with my Gmail to see how it works. So far, big issue with not weeding junk out.

Why do you want to have two apps for 1 gmail account?
I too use the stock email client, but for other accounts (e.g. Work).
The method above of disabling notifications does give you a band-aid solution for your problem, but you're still needlessly syncing your email twice ...
