The Verge is reporting that the US version of the Z5c and Z5 the will be available on Feb. 7 will NOT have a fingerprint scanner/sensor at all. That's just crazy but they are saying this info came directly from Sony. What the hell is Sony thinking??

Honestly I thought it was a joke too but The Verge specifically mentioned that Sony got back with them to confirm this.

Yep many other sites reporting the same now. It's like Sony is intentionally trying to fail or something. Somebody needs to be fired.

Why does the US always get things last with Sony phones? This makes no sense to me. And we don't even get a feature that was supposed to be included with the phone to begin with. We are probably getting leftover Z4s from Japan. What does Sony have against the US when it comes to their phones? I want to get one but I don't want a redheaded step child version of the thing.

Just buy an international unlocked one.. Works fine on any USA GSM network.

But yeah, I agree, this is very odd if true.

But I can't get a proper warranty doing that. But its also the principle. The US versions are essentially knockoffs of the real deal. That shouldn't be the case.

You still have a warranty with the international version. The only difference is that instead of contacting Sony US you'd contact the Sony warranty in the region where your device is from..

A bit of a pain but you do still have warranty..

In all honesty the fingerprint implementation sucks on this phone anyway. It works only about 60% of the time for me. Wonder if they're aware of this and don't want the American market to experience it? Although it seems they couldn't give a rats behind about the US market Anyway. I'd just wait for the z6

It works 99% of the time on my phone and it's lightning fast and accurate.. I couldn't be happier with the sensor.

Maybe you need to delete the prints and register them again? Mine is flawless....

I've seen numerous videos stating this and read it as well. Glad you're having no issue but it's not consistent and pretty wide spread

Widespread?????????? I've seen a few have issues with the sensor on the Z5C but that stands true for every phone on the market with a print sensor.. Best bet is remove the prints and add them back. If that still fails then maybe you have a faulty unit.

Yep. Widespread people are complaining about it being less than accurate (sometimes) I'll tell you what, compared to my 5x, it's way less accurate and not nearly as reliable. I love the z5c but they can't hang with the big boys yet as far as the fingerprint scanner goes. This is just my opinion so no need to debate to death.

I'm seeing nothing of the sort but if you say so then okay...

I also have the Nexus 5X and I see no difference whatsoever between the accuracy and speed of either of the readers..

Guess every other phone with a fingerprint sensor has 'widespread' issues as well then since every phone with one has people complaining about it.... Yup even the mighty Nexus 6P ---> http://www.androidcentral.com/nexus...feature&utm_campaign=navigation&utm_source=ac

Anyways, back on topic. Xperia Blog updated their post to add the following.

Update: Sony Mobile has confirmed to us that the news is true, with the rationale for omitting the fingerprint scanner as a “business decision.”

Source for quote: http://www.xperiablog.net/2016/01/15/no-fingerprint-sensor-in-us-xperia-z5-and-z5-compact-models/

It is a very odd decision. I doubt anyone will buy the US version when you can get more for your money by going international unlocked..

You don't have to search too hard. All of the Sony z5 series has the same sensor. These sensors are NOT on par with others out there imo. I believe it's a hardware issue as mentioned in one article. There are also videos on YouTube saying it's very finicky. I'm glad yours is "flawless" but mine is so frustrating, I turned it off. So yes, I believe it is widespread. Sony excluding it in the US could be telling imo.

Anyone care to discuss the actual topic of the thread???? ---> US version of Z5c will NOT have fingerprint sensor!

I asked my daughter if she was having any problems with her Z5c fingerprint reader. Works for her 100%. She never has an issue. She loves her phone. So much better than her old iphone.

"thread derailed" but you're feverishly coming back with rebuttals . Ok...
Youre part of that derailment Lmao.

Anyway..

I have had most of the phones you put there and the Sony is by far the worst.
I'm just not convinced that it is a perfect phone with regards to the fingerprint reader. It's not that important for me to prove to ONE person that my experience with the implementation of a Sony Reader is not a good one either but it's a little frustrating because it really doesn't work good for me and others. The sensor is very, very hit or miss unlike my old 6s or my current 5x. Those 2 phones really are the current standards right now and damn good readers. Samsung has an issue as well and my s6 was less than accurate. So no, not all phones listed have a huge issue. You can find complaints on EVERYTHING on the Web. Lol. But PocketNow is a pretty reputable reviewer.. And the write up explains my experience well.

Yes the point of the thread is that Sony indeed scrapped the sensor. What are your thoughts as to why? If it were perfect they would not have done this. (((IMO))). If the argument is money, they are not looking to make any on the US market apparently anyway with the super slow release. Parts shortage?.. Highly unlikely. Could it be that the US market is more demanding and savvy with tech??.. Could be. Let's remember that the only feature that they are canning is the fingerprint reader. To my point, I see why.. its because it doesn't work very good and they may have found a hardware flaw. Let's wait to hear more.

Here's another well know tech site who thinks exactly that.
