Swapping SIMs while travelling

Hi all.

I recently picked up a Z5. My first Android phone. Because of this, I'm not sure if this is the right spot for my issue... if it is a Sony issue or a general Android issue. I apologize in advance if this thread is misplaced.

Anyway, I initially set up a Z5 without a SIM card in it. Then, when I decided I was happy with it and wanted to keep it, I moved my service over a nano-SIM and put it in the phone. Then, once the SIM was in, it forced me to wipe the phone and start over.

Is this normal? This is going to be a major PITA, as I travel a bit and use local SIMs. I can't have a phone that wipes itself in an airport when I put a local SIM in.

Most phones don't, some do - which is why there are dual SIM phones. (There are no phones that take 10 SIMS.)
