Well here is my problem guys... I always stored my contacts on the "sprint total protection application", this app no longer works, since updating my phone from 2.2(froyo) to 2.3.5(GB)..The app is not compatible with 2.3.5 GingerBread.. So i have thought about reinstalling back to froyo in order to get that particular app to work, as Sprint seems un-willing to help me with this ($8 a month on insurance for that app)..

I did put one froyo package on my sd card, did Vol down+camera button+power, then i tried restoring it back.. OH, wouldnt you know it fully made the install all the way up to "verification process", so either (1. i had a bad copy of froyo or (2. Sprint makes it impossible to downgrade back to a different OS ??

I have yet to master r00ting, but i do have a nice fancy little program that runs like Dos in win7 with my phone hooked into my lappy.. but im not good with computer code, so its not going to fast for me :(

Anyone have ideas (besides the obvious gmail, mylookout, and sd card import)?

Why cant sprint restore my contacts somehow since i always saved them in my total protection app(the app you download to your phone after paying $8 a month for insurance)?? seems like they could do that for me since it is saved in an assuron/sprint(maker of the app) application?!

What are my options here? try a different link of froyo (maybe it was bad) or sprint just wont let me go back to the old os (where the application-Total protection- does in fact work, thus allowing me to restore my contacts)??

HELP! :( Please fellaws

Re: Need Help, Recovering Contacts (after gingerbread OTA Update)

i done 1 factory reset right after i updated to gingerbread, because it just kept rebooting my phone, but it brought gingerbread right back up!? shouldnt it go back to stock os??

Re: Need Help, Recovering Contacts (after gingerbread OTA Update)

You can't downgrade OS that easy.. Would be nice but you can't....

You would need to use Odin.... Procedure #1 from thread below to return to stock Froyo EC05.

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

thank You brother! downloading the files now! i will posdt here with my experience and/or if i have any problems or questions :)

GREATLY APPRECIATED ! I will share the tool i have for my android r00ter, id assume you guys already have it or know about that, though..

Glad to help. Leave any comments concerning the use of Odin in the following thread, it helps keep things neat and easier to find for the next person in your position :)

UH OH !! SHOOT.. Odin got to "intialization" then froze, waited 25 minutes then restarted phone, all im getting now is a computer screen and a cell phone picture :( DID I BRICK IT??? Ok, i admit im a noobie with android stuff Bro !

I removed the battery and am trying it again, i guess the only options i have are to keep trying this ? If it dont work, um.. use my insurance for a new phone ? sigh!! IM NERVOUS!

Re: Need Help, Recovering Contacts (after gingerbread OTA Update)

now it got stuck on "pit mapping"

This is starting to sounds like a few possible problems...

1. A USB cable issue... I know.. It charges your phone, it makes a USB mass storage connection fine but Odin is VERY fussy...

Try different ports on your computer, ones in the back are closest or right off the motherboard and are usually the best bet. Otherwise try a different cable if you can grab one from a local computer store/radio shack.

2. Your probably working on using procedure #1 from the : [How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone) thread. Sometimes procedure #1 won't fly for some users and you will have to try procedure #2 which is Froyo EB13. I would consider this option too, if it works normally within a few minutes of restoring and booting into Froyo EB13 you will receive the OTA update to Froyo EC05 and then be on your way.

3. Try doing it all without you battery in the device... Pull your battery and leave it out, then connect to your device & computer via USB. Boot into Download Mode and then try the Odin package.. Sometimes this is the trick, I've had to do it before plenty of times.

Try these out and let me know how it goes... Worst case situation, if the device won't boot or anything and its only giving you the exclamation point symbol if you have TEP protection Sprint will just take a look at it and try a few things and they will end up giving you a refurb. Tell them you received the OTA update for Gingerbread, it rebooted and did the installation then boot looped on you and after pulling the battery and replacing it this is where you were left.. I've seen this same scenario played out dozens of times when the OTA Froyo updates came out, people had problems and Sprint just replaced the phones.

Re: Need Help, Recovering Contacts (after gingerbread OTA Update)

Thanks Paul! youre the man.. ill keep trying on my xp and then my win7 machine, at this exact moment i can still get the :downloading screen- do not turn off target" , but other times its just a solid black screen, with no led lights neither.. so im praying for the best, and im trying without battery too, gonna be on this all day long, im determined to see what all android CAN do.. next thing will be r00t, if i can i can it up..

Yes, using procedure #1

If i get this thing back up, ill have to share my usenext account (to access the usenet download archives) ;):D

Let me know if you need something else.

Rooting is half the battle....

Once you're rooted the rest is easy. You'll find a lot of fun in checking out the different roms.

Wait wait wait wait wait wait a minute.........Keithvetter, are you rooted now?!?!?! I thought you were all about stock and nothing more, lol! What happened to you?!?!? lol Man, I gotta start rooting my phone. I just know myself, I'm going to be in over my head with it!!

Yes I know... Poor Keith he fell victim to the dark side of the force.... We tried getting him help, but he refused.... He's out of control now, he's a monster.... LOL....

He's having fun :)

I need to get a card too. I'm not sure what size I need - something cheap. I'd like to know how to do this too.

It was weird. I looked at the video and the instructions one day and it all seemed to click. Rooted and the rest is history. But really the rooting seems to be the hardest part. Flashing roms is easy. I figure I only have to root it once. Lol
