I'm working over the Epic 4G my sister just got. Came with GB out of the box.

What's different is when I plug the USB cable in it doesn't pop up the box asking if I want to turn on USB mass storage, charge or tether. It just puts a USB icon at the top and I have to drag down and tap that to turn on mass storage.

Updating FroYo to GB retains the old FroYo popup.

The popup still exists in gingerbread. It sounds like it's just set to a default out of box. Whereas after an update it asks you to specify (which you can still check as default when you choose and no longer get the popup).

Go to Settings - Wireless and Networks - USB connections.
from there u can choose the options ur looking for.

Or next time it pops up, check the box for "choose as default"
