Epic 4G on rogers?

Hi Everyone,

I am currently a Rogers blackberry user. I will be switching to Android within the next month. I have been drooling over the captivate for the past few weeks. However i would prefer to stay with a physical keyboard, and dont like the idea of losing a flash for the camera, but would enjoy the BT 3.0.

This is where the Epic 4G comes in. Rogers currently runs 3G on 1900Mhz. I did some research and found that the Epic 4G will run on that 3G band, but they also run HSPA+. I haven't got a clue if that is the same frequency or not. What i am trying to find out is if the Epic 4G will be able to support the higher throughput of the HSPA+ network (estimated 21Mbps) or if it will only operate at the standard 3G (3.1Mbps if i recall correctly, could be 7**Mbps, i have lots of numbers in my head atm)

Just to clarify, i would be looking at buying a sprint Epic 4G and unlocking it to use on Rogers as i doubt we will be getting this phone up here anytime soon. If it cant work on the higher range i will probably just wait for Rogers to release the Captivate up here in the next little while.

Can't be done, you're talking about different technologies. CDMA and GSM are not compatible with each other. There would be no place for you to place a SIM card in this phone as CDMA phones don't use SIM cards. Technically, CDMA phones can't be unlocked (well, they can, but not a simple task, and there isn't just a code to enter in the phone, you have to flash software onto the phone). I would abandon this idea as it will not work in any way, and you'd just end up wasting a lot of money.

Thanks for the reply... I do know the difference between CDMA and GSM. I made the mistake of making an assumption regarding this device though. I assumed its 3G specs were GSM/CDMA compatible (as in a world phone). Which after further looking they aren't.

Just for the sake of saying it... Telus is a CDMA network out here. But a bunch of their phones now use sim cards (i think this is to work on their LTE network). So saying that all CDMA phones don't use sim cards used to be correct but over the last year or so that statement cannot be held true. Again, i could be wrong, i am not a cellular specialist, that's for sure.

I thought it was because Telus was switching from CDMA to GSM, but to be honest, I'm not up on my Canadar (hehe) networks. I think Bell is still CDMA.

lol... well bellus (as we Canada(rians)) rents their network from Telus. So bell is telus. But the switch to GSM is possible i suppose... i dunno.
