Stopped in after work myself to pre-order. Now I'm sure someone will post info on the next big phone release that will make the Epic look silly.

On my lunch break I went to Best Buy to pre-order and I was the first person to do so, then ten minutes before closing tonight my wife decided that she would like the Epic as well and I had been the only person to pre-order at all today. I was not on board with Sprint dropping the ball with the price, but now I am thinking it is a possibility.

Pre-ordered at radio shack. The guy made me a bit nervous by saying that they "should" get them on the 31st, but that they'd call me for sure when they do. I'd rather them sound a bit more certain :/

The Radio Shack near me said they are not going to do pre-orders. He said they got burn with the EVO and they don't want to go through that again. On the other the one Best Buy said they are accepting pre-orders for the Epic as well as the EVO and any other phone thats out of stock. Except for the iPhone 4

Just pre-ordered mine this morning. I used my $50 gift card from my White Evo pre-order as the pre-order payment for the Epic

You do realize that the $50 you paid is the $50 that's on the gift card. When you pick up the phone you will still have to pay $249 and its your choice whether or not to use the gift card towards the purchase of the phone.

Just clarifying the gift card scam

I just called them and spoke to the guy. He said he "heard" they might be selling the phone for $199 and I would just pay the the other $150 when I pick up the phone...I guess we'll see

Radio Shack or Best Buy can't sell anything lower than the advertised price that Sprint puts out unless they agree something can go on sale. The Epic 4G is a brand spanking new phone, Sprint will never let them put a brand new device on sale, believe what you want but I'll bet you 100 dollars right here and now this doesn't happen.

I'm not saying I believe him cause I don't. I don't mind or care for paying $250 for it just thought I had a deal

Sorry, when I pre-ordered the white Evo they made it seem like they gift card was a "gift" saying, "Here's a $50 gift to use for accessories when you pick up your Evo." This time I already knew what the deal was.

I really hope that $199 is true, when you think about it $249 is just not competitive at all. If they do that the only ppl that will buy this phone are geeks like us and ppl who think that the most expensive phone is the best. Everyone else will go for the Evo.

They gave you the gift card but when you pick up the phone you still need to pay $250.00. It is up to you if you want to apply that $50.00 giftcard to it or not.

They give you a gift card so that even if you cancel your pre-order or don't pick up the phone, you still are forced to spend that $50 in their store. I wouldn't call it a gift by any means :P

I preordered two phones from newegg - 239.99, free shipping (I upgraded to 2nd day) and no sales tax. I went through the sprint employee value plan site last time and only got half the rebate, this is the first time I have bought through someplace other than sprint. No more waiting for rebates for me. Since we have a family plan I had to order on the phone rather than online, not a problem although they had to read the whole service agreement and ask in several places if I understood and agreed.

    Charges Today
Qty Product Description Unit Price Total
    1 Samsung Epic 4G $239.99 $239.99
    1 Premium In-Vehicle Charger $14.99 $14.99
    1 Samsung Epic 4G $239.99 $239.99
    Sub Total $494.97
    2nd Business Day Shipping $7.99
    Tax $0.00
    Total $502.96

You know if one of the lines do not qualify for the upgrade it wouldn't be shipped right? Or maybe they just charge you the full price. Before shipment they have to be approved and activate by Sprint.

Yes, they asked for my sprint PIN, I gave them the wrong one initially and got an email asking for it again. It all has to be verified through Sprint, which I understood before ordering. Both lines have been eligible for upgrade since July 1.

Item Status Mobile Number Date Service is Scheduled to be Live
1 Samsung Epic 4G Approved - Awaiting Inventory To be scheduled Cancel Item
2 Samsung Epic 4G Approved - Awaiting Inventory To be scheduled Cancel Item

The "approved" means they have passed the sprint verification. One they get notification I have received the phones they will schedule a date to activate them, which is the "to be live", which should be the next day they said.
