Can I order online to out-of-state seller and avoid CA's tax?

California charges sales tax on the full $500+ value of the phone...and I'm trying to find a way to save the forty bux.

Can I order from an out-of-state online retailer and avoid paying the sales tax as for other goods?

If the Epic is $249 everywhere, I'm thinking this might be the angle to pursue.

possibly. You probably wouldn't be able to receive the device on launch day as you would need to purchase something on-line to avoid the tax, but I have no recommendation on where. I think Oregon has little (or none) sales tax, feel like making a drive up there?

My understanding, is that if they don't have physical operations in the state you live in, then they do not charge sales tax. At least that used to be the way it worked.

Amazon still operates on that (for now)


If you can preorder from Amazon you will likely avoid sales tax. And I know they do it for video games, dunno about cell phones, but they do a "Release Day Delivery" for like $7.

That is so cool. I would drive to Nevada or something like that and buy it at the local bet buy.

bought mine from wirefly and got it for 240 and no sales tax
