Of course it can. That's a hardware thing, not a software thing. So even if it's running TW 2.5, it will still have TV out.

I think it was BGR that reported on the USB to HDMI. Whoever it was stated in the preview/review that it could also output through the HS jack, that it was just lower quality than the HDMI output.

You have got to be kidding me! How could you possibly call this a Galaxy S phone then? Why don't they just rebrand it if they are going to mod so much hardware. It looks completely different, the camera supposedly is worse than the other cameras when it comes to video, and now no TV out? What are they trying to do, especially with the 249.99 price? I was waiting the whole time for this phone because (along with MANY other reasons) of the TV out. I don't complain about software, but when it comes to hardware, oh boy, I really get upset because you simply cannot fix hardware like you can with software on these phones! I don't understand what Sprint is gambling on. Nerfed hardware (even with the addition of a keyboard, flash, and a front facing camera, they should still have the original Galaxy S features with it), expensive price, 10 dollar "premium data" plan, and software problems (ok, not so bad. Root and I'm done). On the bright side, it still is better than the Evo IMO, but it's not in my hands, so I'm only comparing it with what I saw on reviews.

EDIT: I found Wirefly stating the contrary: "Although the Samsung Epic 4G does offer video out via a 3.5mm headphone out cable (also sold separately), it does not provide HD-out capabilities." I don't know how reliable they are though.Last edited by caliskimmer; 08-23-2010 at 12:48 AM.

$50 for a micro-USB to HDMI cable? That seems unreasonable. I was going to get one for my Captivate, but jeez... that's a lotta meatballs.

He posted a comparison pic that shows the epic4g not having it while the captivate does. Its gone.. for now.
But someone over at sdx reported that tv out was on his Epic 4g until an update and then it disappeared.

I heard there may be another update before launch day. Maybe it'll re-enable the settings? If it was there in the first place, then the hardware MUST support it as I don't see how you can put non-functioning settings in a build, even if it's beta or GM

Samsung Disabled TV-Out?
This was a feature I was really looking forward to. In fact, I even got my cable today in the mail

Actually, we believe it does. Someone over at SDX said that before one of the updates that Samsung rolled out, that option was available. At this point, I say don't get your hopes down because the hardware more than likely supports TV-Out. Worst case scenario, you will be waiting for an update from Samsung to bring it. Some of us think that this is not the final OS release and that there will be another update before launch day. Hope this helps!

It better be enabled on launch, I had visions of watching ESPN on Sprint TV or playing Sonic in my car during lunch. The TV-Out is what really sold me on the Epic, if it doesn't have it it pretty much is a deal breaker for me, I will just wait for the next round of Sprint phones.

No TV out
I got to try out the Epic at the Sprint store yesterday and test if the 3.5 Video Out works…it doesn’t! Unless I was doing something wrong. I’m a Nokia “N” convert so I am familiar with video out this way. I used my Nokia video cables, but it wasn’t plug-and-play like my N95. I also followed the YouTube instructions to change the settings but the TV out option does not appear to exist on the Epic. Maybe they removed this option on the Epic or I’m just losing my gadget skills! If someone figures it out, please post it.

Sprint specifically asked for it to be removed due to the Sprint TV and movie store for copyright infringement hoohikcy crap. I doubt it will come back unless it gets cooked into a rom.
I was soo looking forward to playing SNES anywhere i went like i did with my N900.

While I can understand your disappointment (as I share it) Lets wait until the release to see if it is actually going to release that way. Seems like ALOT of negativity is brewing right before the release and I fear it may be biased people trying to sway others away from the phone. I truly hope that sprint tv, the application I have NEVER EVER EVER used, is preventing me from using TV out. Lets all hope that this is just chatter from the haters.

Im glad you came here and your first post was to fuel the bad things being said about the phone. Really says alot to your credibility.
This seems like the only reason to limit it, but removing a HUGE feature for an app?? Seems wrong. Plus with HDMI out on the evo wouldnt they have the same issue with that phone? Also if there is to be a USB to HDMI output (is there enough bandwidth?) wouldnt there still be an issue? If this truly is what is limiting this well then offer the phone with TV out and no sprint tv as a special edition. I plan on using that feature pretty often for movies on the go, slingbox on the go, and working away from home when Im too lazy to bust out the workstation setup. - 08-24-2010, 11:11 AM #22
If Sprint is disabling TV out for Sprint TV on top of everything else they might as well toss epic in the gutter.

Well TVoutServer files in BIN which is promising.
I'm downloading Vibrant OS dump do some cross checking on file content.
Worse comes to worse modification to rom can fix if sprint shorted us on Tv feature
