Did you test your upload speed on 3g?

There is big commotion over at android forums that epic has its upload speed capped at 150kbps over 3g. It is being tested using speedtest app. Unless I am missing such discussion on these forums, I didnt see any thread about this issue here at android central. Have you tested your upload speed on 3g?? What are your results? Do you think it is really capped?

1.32 down and .15 up, it jumped very briefly up to .20 but then stuck direct at .15 - definitely would be consistent with throttling.

Is this the "higher tier" 3G service all the sprint reps have told us we are all supposed to be getting for those of us not in a 4G area and still paying an extra $10 a month? Kind of bull**** if you ask me.

$10 more and slower speeds than every single handset I have had (Treo Pro, Treo 800w, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2) in past few years. Will not go above 150 upload. No wonder qik and other video chat is working on Evo and not on Epic.

There for sure is some sort of data cap.

I've run Speedtest on numerous occasions in many areas anywhere from 1bar-full bars.

My download speed generally is 900-1500kbps.

But NEVER has my upload speed been higher than 155kbps.

Im in Ft Lauderdale. I have been wondering about this myself. I know of one wimax area, us1 and commercial blvd that i can pull about 6mbps down and 4mbps up. On my wifi at home i get slightly less...however, on 3g, i may only get only 1 mbps down and .5 up 1 out of every 15 test...The normal i always get is around 260 kpbs down and 130 up...quite disappointing 3g results.

From what i read and speaking to many people, they say Sprints 3g network is really starting to get bogged down and bottleneck with all the data people are using, similar to what att was and is experiencing in certain areas and its not any of the phones but something sprint needs to fix with backhaul.

Just did a speed test and I got 1.07mbps down and 150kbps up. Every time I compare to my brothers speed in different areas around SF I always get beat. One has Verizon the other att.

I have an EVDO tower close by and I'm getting about the same EVDO speeds I got with my Samsung M620 phone with USB tethering. My average is about 400 kilobits per second down and 140 up. In all the testing I've done over the last few years I've never gotten more than 150 kbs up--and that's with 3 different EVDO phones but all with Sprint.

Unless I get an update that fixes my 4G (can't connect at all anywhere in Baltimore) I'll have to swap this phone for a new one or even ditch the Epic and go back to my old phone.

Disappointing. Guess this is why Fring and Qik look like crap for my brother on his evo but looks fine for me on my epic on 3g.

Can it be hacked or is this cap on Sprints end specifically for the epic?

I have an evo in my left hand, an epic in my right.

Epic not exceeding 155 during 6 tries using speed test.net app.

Evo uploading at 500 reach time

Yikes!

WTF? Why are the Epic users getting screwed here? This may be a deal breaker for me. Take a lot of pictures with the Epic and was wondering why it took FOREVER to send or upload these pics! It also pretty much kills the Fring and Qik apps unless you're in a 4G of Wifi area. Used to be able to use it perfectly on the Evo with 3G.

Has anyone tried to open a ticket with Sprint... If we are pissed off, Sprint should know it so they would take some action rather soon.

I have been having a difficult time uploading pics as well. Many times it actually times out it takes so long. It is not the phone as my wifi speed is very good, it is just when i am on 3g. I just read over in the epic sprint user forums someone posting about how they are having major picturemail issues and needing to restart the phone and someone gave a reply...whether it is true or not...that the epic has the slowest 3g upload speeds of any sprint 3g phone.

My Epic has been right around 150kbps upload speed on 3G since the first test I ran on 8/31. I thought this seemed low, but never cared enough to reactivate another phone to test (and never thought to post a thread)

Just ran 3G, 4G, and Wifi speedtest.net app tests:

3G: 761 down/156 up
3G: 712 down/135 up

4G: 8878 down/1127 up
4G: 11202 down/1144 up

Wifi: 9944 down/2048 up
Wifi: 12668 down/2122 up

Wow, you have some crazy fast 4G speeds and crazy slow 3G speeds (download). I only get 2-4 mb down on 4G. But I get 1.5 on 3G.

Wrong. I don't know who you are speaking to but my several and varied up to 2-and-a-half-year-old WM phones, and our Evo, are all getting much higher 3G speeds sitting on the same desk as my Epics.
It has zero to do with any 3G network issue and is 100% occurring only with Epic

moreover we are paying Spint $10 more and sprint says this is not for 4G but more robust data service.

I am getting 3x the 3g upload speed on my Treo 800w, and touch pro, and my Evo consistently over four days of tests in many areas compared ot Epic. It simply will not go over 150, and i get 400 to 500 upload on all the other devices.

Sprints 4g coverage is only in 1/3 of the populus. On top of that the battery usage of 4G means almost all of us will leave it off by default. In 3g areas, people on $30/month SERO plans using two year old phones they can buy for $50 on ebay will get much better speeds in 3G than $500 Epics on $60/month plans.

Guys, along with your speed test results, can you also post your baseband version number. It is under Settings->About Phone.

Someone over at android forums received an over the air update, which changed his baseband version to DI07. This could possibly be an update to fix this speed cap issue. Just wanted to let you folks know. If you receive such an update, please compare and post your after update speed results.
