New to android rooting and need a little help

Before I would just like a little help
1) how do i do a complete backup of my Epic to revert to if something goes wrong (I beleve it is creating a custom ROM of my phone. may be mistaken)
2) what is the link to a good guide to rooting my phone
3) where can i find custom roms
4) how do i unroot if need be?
5) is there a program i need to install apk files, or just copy into the root directory

I suggest the one click root. There's unrooting instructions over at SDX/XDA. ROMs are most likely to be found at XDA.

I've downloaded the recommended Samsung drivers and installed on Win7 32 bit machine. What driver file should show up in device manager after install of the drivers?
