Battery issue since updating to DK28
i updated to Froyo from eclair about a week ago. since then my battery life has went down substantially. i get about 8 hours with barely any usage. i used to get about 12-18 hours with average usage on eclair. ive tried to figure out whats causing this but to no avail. any suggestions?

I agree. My battery life has gone down from upgrading. The small perks of 2.2.1 is not as great as having better battery life. I have two batteries but man... I wonder what it is that is causing faster battery drain.

Its DK28. I've run all versions of 2.2.1 and I think I may roll back. I think its the DK28 Modem. Its aweful. Sure, the GPS works perfectly now, but damn, not worth the huge drop in 3G/4G speed. I was getting almost 8Mbits/sec download and your usual Capped 1Mbit/sec upload in Ft. Lauderdale (not even officially covered) and now the best I've gotten is around 2Mbit/sec. Most I got in LA was 3.93, which has great coverage BTW. I'll probably roll back soon, may try out a Themed ROM first.

yea the GPS didnt even work for me the first time, i had to go back to eclair and start over. but now it works. and then i had some bug where my wifi would just stop working. i wouldnt be able to turn it back on for some reason. and the battery is just abysmal. im hoping this isnt the final release and that when it officially comes out, this issue will be fixed.
so far, ive tried deleting ATK, turning off Juice defender, and stopping a bunch of running services. i tried doing the DRM trick like in 2.1 and that doesnt help. i wonder if rooting will help this? any moderators have an opinion for me? - 12-14-2010, 06:57 AM #7
I haven't noticed much of a battery life change since moving up to DK28 but I only ran the update for a few days before loading TrulyEpic ROM and I know its modified quite a bit from stock to remove a lot of bloatware and crap that keeps itself running. That said, I also haven't noticed a lot of difference in the data speed but I also don't do a lot of heavy downloading, just mostly some light browsing here and there.

That build is a beta because it has lots of bugs. Not worth using imo. Wait for the official update.

I have had pretty crap battery with all of them.....to the point I carry an extra with me at all times, and often go through AT LEAST 1.5 of them in a day.
I do think I MAY be getting a little bit better with 2.2.1 so far, even though it could also just be my imagination..... - 12-14-2010, 11:45 AM #10
are you rooted? that is a big part of it.
if you were running 2.1 rooted, with a custom kernel, then of course your old battery life is going to completely blow the 2.2 battery status out of the water. the custom kernels on 2.1 are optimized for battery - at least most of them.
2.2's source code hasnt been released - at least the last time i looked. so theres no custom kernels.
however my battery and gps has been fine. definitely better with a custom kernel but thats expected. what i didnt like was the drop in data speeds, although after testing again last night my speeds seem to be back to normal. so i think it was just a fluke with sprint - which i think im getting kind of over them, they keep trying to **** me overLast edited by ragnarokx; 12-14-2010 at 12:39 PM. I've noticed improved battery life among other performance increases (I.E. things just loading faster and feeling smoother) by going back to 2.1. I've never rooted so thats not an issue.

My battery lasts just as long as ever did... 14.5 hours and still going. It really depends on usage also. I mostly message (SMS/Twitter/FB), spend about 20 mins playing games, and have verrrry short phone convos.. I also ALWAYS make sure I fully exit an app. Question, have you used the phone more since the update maybe, installed anything new?

i think the only thing new i installed was the flash. but as for using it more no... i have actually tried to use it a lot less... should i delete all my apps and see if that helps? i really hate re entering everything in some of them though... i dont think app data can be saved can it?
soo this is how i have it set up. i turn on and do the airplane trick, then i have my juice defender set to enable every 15 mins. i have fb and twitter update settings off. and i dont know how to change the new gmail settings.
i use f plus and it syncs every 5 mins... i have back ground data off.
hmmm... i dont know what im missing..screen set to disable after 15 secs and its set on automatic brightness. gps, 4g, wifi, and bluetooth are all off.
thats about it i think.
ohh and to add... it seems to drain about 10-20 percent in about an hour sometimes less. and its supposed to be "asleep" for most of this time.Last edited by ksmullins88; 12-14-2010 at 10:19 PM.

Your settings are simiar to mine actually. I keep background stuff and syncing off as I use Pure Contact widget to handle all of my twitter/fb/email feeds.
Check your battery status to see what is draining batterythe most (for me it is just screen as I mostly message).
If you need to save app settings you can check out mybackup/pro which you can backup apps and data.
Check runnning services/running programs and close what isn't usefull or needed. I honestly do that at least three hours a day. I *personally* do not use any taskiller/juice defender/etc as it takes me a second to close things on my own... - 12-15-2010, 11:34 AM

yea i have backup pro and everythings backed up but i still have to manually enter stuff into the applications -_-
but i did leave it un charged last night and it only lost about 6 % battery...
it says my screen is using like 98% battery ha.. ughhh
you think i should try rooting to Quantum 2.0?
What about TrulyEpic?
whats the difference in these two ROMS? - 12-15-2010, 01:05 PM #21

ksmullins88 - we were getting a little off topic, so I moved our conversation over to the Quantum ROM thread.

Rooting your phone and putting a new kernel on it will improve your battery.

Granted, I have no idea what my stock battery life would have been, because I immediately rooted and put ViperRom 3.03 on there, but so far, with moderate internet/messaging usage and moderate phone conversations (~1.5 hours a day maximum), I am getting 13-14 hours.
Considering that with ANY usage, my Pre got me about 5 hours, I'm in hog heaven... - 12-23-2010, 12:13 PM #25
On WiFi I think battery life is the same. Off WiFi, it's significantly worse.
