I thought that froyo was going to be the last official update to the epic... I would laugh my arse off if it got honeycomb after all the bad mouthing samsung got from so many here.

Can't wait until the devs get a chance to work with this.

The theory I've held for the past few months: Google choosing Samsung to be the manufacturer of their Nexus phone is the best thing software-wise that could have happened to the Galaxy S series. This is because Google builds their new OS versions for Galaxy S (Nexus S) hardware, so it's not too far a leap to get it to the rest of the Galaxy S family.

Not sure if this helps the ASOP or CM7 to Epic- which is what I'm MOST interested in...
I'm absolutely eating my words - I really never expected GB for Epic. That said- even non rooted I think EC05 has some problems- my wife's phone has been acting up for days now while she was out of town. Now she finally wants me to root her phone so she can do a nandroid recovery easily while she's on the road. (Very dumb you need to be rooted in order to do such a complete backup...)
Really glad to see this in print... I only hope it happens sooner than later. Would love to see this by May. - 04-14-2011, 12:56 AM #14
ill believe it when it happens
- 04-14-2011, 07:29 AM #15
It is already going to happen to the Galaxy S (i9000) so it is not far fetched for it to come to the Epic.
I remember a while back that someone inside Google made the comment that almost all phones capable of running Froyo will be able to run Gingerbread and if they don't get upgraded it will be a decision made by the carrier and not a limitation of the phone or Android. I was hopeful back then when I saw that and I never lost hope. - 04-14-2011, 07:55 AM #16
Honeycomb is optimized for tablets, and likely won't ever see phones. Did you mean gingerbread?
That's what I thought too, I'm as surprised as anyone about this. Like rag said though, it would be pretty silly to write GB for the Nexus S and not port it to the other 50 variations of what is basically the same phone. - 04-14-2011, 09:19 AM #17
Can someone direct me to what will be new in 2.3 for the epic?
