Speaker stopped working

Hi Guys, The speaker on my epic just stopped working. I got a replacement via insurance in april after I lost the original. Two months later the speaker has stopped working on the new one. Will sprint let me exchange this phone for a new one or am I screwed?

If you have your insurance it should be covered unless they feel its due to user abuse.

ya but am I going to have to pay another 100 dollars? I would like to avoid paying that if I can

If memory serves me correctly the speaker is repairable. You might find a shop localy who will charge you less to repleace the speaker.
If yoru in Dallas i could help out.

As far as getting a new device. If you use insurance it will be a refurbished device. Asuion does not send new units to anybody.

Actually now that i am re-reading this. If you have TEP then then a sprint service center should fix this for free. That is covered under the TEP and you will not need to pay a deductible. The deductible only applies to lost / stolen or physical damage where a replacement is needed.
If its only the speaker it should be repairable. Unless theres water damage.

Find a tech center, speaker replacement is an authorized repair - and a very easy repair at that. Your insurance covers the repair and should have no cost for you. As long as it isn't going out due to Liquid or Physical damage you will be fine.

Speakers went out on me last week but I had ESRP and that covered the repair which took about one hour.
If you have insurance, you should be fine.

A better question you should be asking is WHY THE LOUDSPEAKER WENT OUT TO BEGIN WITH! I just fixed mine at much time, money and stress. The phone is less than two years old!

I won't buy a Samsung phone again.

Their customer service sucks.

Please discus because I think it is appalling that something like this happens so frequently on such an expensive device. I am a light user. The phone has never been dropped or gotten wet.

That is BS.

I would just like to address this one here...

First, it's a moving part inside a rather delicate electrical device. Speakers can sieze, I've seen cell phone speakers sieze, I've seen speakers in a Benz just suddenly go (not being "cranked" or anything). Sometimes it's dust, sometimes it's moisture (regular air humidity). It happens, that's why the insurance covers things like that.
The speaker is a very easy repair for anyone willing to take the time to just pay attention to what screws went where. It pops out, and a new replacement (that should only be a couple dollars online) put in. If you found the repair difficult and stressful, I recommend you have someone else work on your phone next time you have a problem with it.

I'm sure when you buy your next phone, you'll end up bashing HTC or LG, or any other manufacturer. These issues are NOT specific to just Samsung. Go sell your Epic and use the money to get something from a different manufacturer. Wash-rinse-repeat...

Sprint's customer service, bad?? Really? I've had nothing but good experience with them. A few months back my Epic suddenly just shut down for good. I walked into the store, they looked it over, and promptly ordered me a replacement, at no cost (tep) to me. They told me if I didn't have TEP it would have only been $35. Most minor repairs are cheap there if you don't have tep, and free if you do.
They have won awards for having one of the highest rated customer service departments overall. The phone reps have been nothing but helpful whenever I've had the odd issue with my account (for instance, I was getting charged call to call with another phone on my account, pushing me over minutes. They looked at it, and promptly fixed it. No hassle at all).

For each of those awards, you can go to their source and verify them.

Aside from my rather long rebuttal, I don't feel there needs to be much discussion. The failures we see with the epics are far and few between (although gathered into a forum, because that's where people go when they have a problem).

You sure it's not the headphone jack thing? If you use your headphone jack a lot the switch in there can get stuck so the phone thinks it has headphones plugged in when it doesn't. Then neither of the speakers will work. The solution is to clean it out. I used some alcohol.

I had this problem for a week and I had no idea what was going on. The problem started after I installed the Xfinity Player app so I thought it was a software thing - I even hard reset my phone! I just sprayed in some alcohol and it's totally fixed - thanks so much!!

Update: the problem came back this morning. I think the alcohol may have just temporarily disrupted the circuit, and when it dried completely overnight, the headphone jack switch is still activated. I already fished out all the dirt before spraying the alcohol, so I don't know how much more I can accomplish with just cleaning. Any other thoughts on how I might fix this?

Update 2: I don't know if the stuck switch will be at all fixable, but I downloaded the toggleheadset2 app/widget from the market to help mange this problem, and it works great!

Thanks for the tip on the app. When I used alcohol, I used it on the corner of a tissue or paper towel or something and twisted it around in there being careful not to get too aggressive and leave something behind. The problem has not recurred for me, but I don't use the jack too often and am always concerned when I do.
