Sprint Visual Voicemail on G-Nex

the Sprint Nexus S 4G does not have a Visual Voicemail (VVM) App preinstalled and there is not one available for download in the Android Market. it will probably be the same deal for the Sprint G-Nex.

i love pure Google Android - but i hope that Sprint follows Verizon's lead and puts out a VVM App for download for the G-Nex.

anybody hear anything about this?

Correct. Why any sprint customer isn't using this FREE service is beyond me.

I restored a backup from Titanium on Deck's ICS ROM and it appeared to be working. Though when it tried to authenticate itself with the network it just kept spinning. Tried again without restoring the data par and it failed even worse. I suppose they haven't updated it to be compatible with ICS yet. No worries, I'm sure Sprint won't leave us out in the cold.

Zero Bugs, Zero Issues on Nexus S & Optimus S.

...But i see your one of "those" ppl... can't afford to lose a text, lol, as if that NEVER happens to anyone not using Google Voice..

Yeah Google voice works perfectly on my optimus S. Great to have when ROMing cause I don't miss a thing thanks to my laptop. Great Google service!

for those who use google voice, what happens if someone sends you an MMS?

it comes in like normal to the oem messenger. no issues.

as a matter of fact, i don't use the GV messenger.

All my SMS & MMS come into the normal oem messenger.

I only us GV for the visual voice mail, and the pluthera of voice mail tools, AKA i can block specific numbers with a "this number is out of service" message.

Plus you can create personalized voice mail greetings, one for your wife when she calls you, one for your parents, etc. Everyone in your contact list could hear a specific greeting catered towards them if you wanted.

The enhancements far outweigh any bugs, plus i don't have to 100% commit to GV, such as how i use SMS & MMS like normal.

The only thing i don't have is the GV dialer (have to buy it apparently 3rd party app) so no WiFi calls for me at the moment (may just be the phone i have).

Also having my sprint line hooked to GV, ALL voice-mails & SMS messages are recorded (not sure how long they stay there), but i can continually delete from the oem app, and if i wanted to, go to either the GV website to view them all, or open the GV messenger app to hunt them down.

It goes to my text message app like it is supposed to. If you skip Sprint integration during setup you can use google voice the EXACT same way that sprint's vvm works. The problems come when people choose the integrate option in google voice setup...(it's like the first step) which ends up doing things with your text and mms messages. The key is to set up google voice and choose skip integration.

I had to do this with my Nexus S 4G and I really didn't want to. Fortunately everything works the exact same as it did before. You just have to re-record your greeting. There are more advanced things you can do with google voice if you want like getting text transcripts of your voice mails for free and having a separate google voice number but I didn't do any of that. I just wanted a simple vvm app and this works perfect for that.

Just make sure to skip integration so it doesn't mess with your mms and text messages.

I use GV for VVM and don't use it for anything else. When you install the app press skip on the first screen. The rest of the install will walk you through setting up GV for VVM only using conditional call forwarding from sprint. This style of use is called "google voice lite". When I tried full integration I decided that wasn't for me.

i don't want to use Google Voice. i want to use Sprint Visual Voicemail and i want Sprint to put an official VVM App in the Market for download onto the Nexus just like Verizon does.

I actually got the visual voice mail app to provision successfully on CM7. Just pulled the app out of the system app folder on a Sense ROM...installed and it was all good. Still had they text you get when a voicemail came in though.

Here's why I use google voice, let's say I'm in a bad service area or in a basement or something and I get a missed call. My phone app doesn't recognize it, as in I go to recent calls and I don't see anything there. It's like it never happened but here comes google voice to the rescue, I get an email letting me know someone called and now I can return their call and look like the *** who doesn't call people back. Plus being able to listen to your voicemails on your pc is great.

I like a lot of things that gv has to offer but I have two major issues with it.
1. The interface is crap the buttons are small and hard to use and there is little mobile management.
2. You can't listen to gv messages on Bluetooth, or at least the Bluetooth in my truck, but I can with sprint vvm.
Sprints vvm is simple and user friendly. Buttons are large, there is a call back button and it is just simple to use. It is crap that they want you to pay for voice to text but it beats verizon that makes you pay for vvm.
Honestly I think google is just half hardly putting stuff together to try and compete with apple but I don't think they actually use this stuff, or they can't make it better cause someone else already has it patented!

The positives from GV far outweigh those of sprints vvm. As a matter of fact that is one of the first things I delete off my phone when I root along with sprint radio, nascar and sprint tv.

Well.. I love gv... but if it matters that much once the evo 4g lte comes out get the apk from someone, it will be 4.0 compatible. Just have to dig around for it as there's a legal thing in regards to downloading and installing it 2nd hand.

Personally I love using Google Voice with the full integration. Yeah, the text message app isn't the greatest, but I can send and receive texts so what more do I need. Plus using GV also allows me to check and respond to my texts and voicemails on both my cell, my wi-fi only tablet, and my computer.

I recently ported my out of state number that i've had for ever to google voice, and got myself a local number to where i am now on the phone itself.

Best of both worlds. I can still be reached via my old number which forwards to my new local number.

Sent out a mass text regarding the number change, so eventually i won't be getting any calls from the old number, just banks, telemarketing (which can now be easily blocked per number as well).

The feature set Google voice offers is simply ridiculous, and its free.

A customizable voice mail greeting per caller? excellent. Mom gets her own greeting, Dad gets her own greeting, each friend can have their own greeting, Vulgar Greetings you don't have to worry about Grandma reaching...
Blocking capabilities of certain inbound numbers "the number your trying to reach has been disconnected" Priceless.

Now i have a power house, Google Drive, Google Music, Gmail, etc.

No more multiple platforms, multiple logins.

All is consolidated.

Ah-Men to Google, providing these free services, and sending me personalized ads based on my personal data collected.

Couldn't get any better, but Google will assure that it does.

OK i broke down and did the Sprint and Google Voice Integration. not as painful as i thought. i kept my Sprint number and now my Sprint number is also my GV number. initial set up was a little tricky to get things exactly right - it involved both desktop and phone settings - but once everything was set up correctly it seems to run pretty sweet!
