    Default Free Tethering??

Since this is a Sprint phone is there also free tethering? Much like when the nexus one on tmobile they can't block tethering because it is completely stock android.

I'm talking without rooting and installing Cyanogenmod.

Wouldn't count on it, tether was blocked on stock NS4G

I'm assuming if you root your phone you can still tether it (at least if you use other apps).

tethering was free on all nexus devices until sprint released the ns4g. they got an ota to disable tethering all together (it shipped with 4g tethering blocked)
Webchat support for the Official Unloved Devices Hit Squad

Hmmm...this is a deal breaker for me. I am still rocking a launch day Palm Pre...and say what you will, but WebOS rocks and I tether my Pre all of the time. I tether my work laptop when I am at client sites, my TouchPad when I am away from home, and I even let my clients use it to tether their laptops when they are visiting my office (they aren't allowed on our network).

How difficult is it to get around this?

All you have to do is root, but you aren't supposed to tether on any cell phone unless you pay the additional fee for tethering on your plan.

If they say I get 2gb/5gb/unlimited per month that means I get 2gb/5gb/unlimited per month to do with as I please. I don't have to pay extra to be able to use that data to read my email, watch youtube or even porn, why should I pay to tether? Does attaching a computer somehow add extra strain to the network that watching the same youtube video off my phone doesn't?

I know you're trying to start an argument with a post I made that wasn't directed toward you, but I'll answer anyway.

I agree with you, my point was only that you're supposed to get a tethering plan if you tether your phone to a laptop/pc/tablet.

Just phone companies nickel and diming. Nothing new to see here.

I will admit though, tethering your laptop, tablets etc eats up much more bandwidth overall. But yeah, at the end of they day, they just want you to pay for a "value add" service.

Not to trying to feed to much. The TOS you sign specifically states that you have unlimited "internet for your cell phone" not anything else. As much as I don't like the idea of having to pay for tethering, it's right there in black & white when sign the contract.

Sent from the greatest HTC EVO 4G ever made!!!
If by some chance I helped you out, please be so kind as to hit that thanks button. You'd be a lot cooler if you did.

A contract was signed and the distinction between data used on the phone and data used by tethering with the phone is clear. According to that contract, you agreed they were different so there's really no discussion. Don't like it, be mad at yourself. Also google implemented the vendor directory in GB to allow carriers to activate and deactivate features like tethering. Sucks but I do agree with them that they did not remove tethering but simply allowed carriers to enforce their TOS. You pay, native tether works. The sooner that pill is swallowed, the sooner you'll be tethering.

I wish it were free for all too but the good news is these aren't iphones. If we don't like something we can fix it.

With all the contract BS sorted, I have no doubt when source hits 4.0.4 which adds sprint support, it wont take long for the file to be made available to flash and fix native tethering. When the NS4G launched it allowed native tether. They quickly pushed an update to block it but the jig was up. People just used the original file in their builds and tethering worked again. Same mod to the new files should yield similar results. Keep an eye peteralfonso.com cause he'll be hot on its heels.

For those looking to root but no custom recovery or prefer not to flash, obviously our old friend wireless tether for root will be readily available.

For those who don't even want to root, you're stuck tethering through a usb cable but there are several options for non-rooted usb cable tethering. These apps wont show in your market because sprint tells google to block them but in return, the app developers let you purchase and download the apk from their site.

Everybody ok, its not too bad huh? It sucks, but we all agreed to it and all have other options available

No, we have work-arounds not options sadly.

The Verizon Gnexers are tethering just fine even without root.

Will probably be allowed for awhile then blocked. Will be easily worked around by the dev community.
