Unhappy Issues with the security screen and hands-free headsets

Over the weekend, I noticed a problem with using a hands-free headset and having screen security enabled. Basically, if you use screen security (such as a pin or pattern), you are not able to make outgoing calls without unlocking the phone first.
It is a bit of a conundrum, and I can see both sides here.
On one hand, you don't want people to be making outgoing calls without unlocking the phone. On the other hand, it makes it very difficult to use in the car when you can't use hands-free options because of phone security. You can take incoming calls, but the voice assistant won't launch when the phone is locked.
You need a special car mode that allows outgoing calls and the voice helper, even when the phone is locked.
    Thoughts?

I've been making calls with my phone while the screen is locked since I got the phone. I make calls via bluetooth in my car and it works just fine. But I wasn't using the voice assistant built in the phone, I was using the in-car dialing built into my car. But yeah, I think not using the voice assistant while the phone is locked is a big time oversight.

Interesting. This implies that there is a Bluetooth protocol that bypasses the screen security. I hadn't considered this.
The headset I'm using is a Motorola 730 with voice assist. It's an over-ear loop, which is why I like it. Perhaps there are supported headset guidance on Sammy's support site.
Good old tech, outdated by the time it hits the shelves. You think 2.1.1 is the latest? Oh no no no no, that was yesterday. We are now on v2.5.2

Go to the phone app, press menu, go to "Accessory settings for call" then "Outgoing call conditions" and make sure that it's set to "Even when device locked."

Great, I'll give that a try. I hope it works.
