Personally, I don't think it is the phone but the S-Voice itself. Maybe they will come out with a fix for it if enough people have a problem.
How do you get all your events onto you new calendar?
My thought is that it isn't the gmail account it's the calendar associated with the gmail account that caused the problem. Now that it's not the primary account the scheduling can take place. My suggestion to get a new account was just to test the phone, but it's working, so why not keep the new email? I do the same for my phone. It's gmail isn't my daily use gmail. I think one of the features of Jelly Bean is that it allows you to change the downloaded apps association.DAS, am glad you got to the bottom of this, but I don't really understand how a GMAIL account could be corrupted. Also, when you say you can add another account, to be able to download etc, did you just remove the new account once phone setup and then add in the details for the old account?

Problem with me is GMAIL is my main account for emails, calendar etc, so not sure how I would still resolve my issue, as would need to keep my existing gmail account

Ah, OK .. so you mean factory reset the phone? I just titanium backup on my rooted S3, so my restore would be via that anyway ... presume that would still work?
I think I may have to put up with S Voice not working .. which is a shame, but the hassle and risk of it not working just for that ... not sure if worth or not. It is still a shame that there is no other way around it .... thought there would be
