is the phone gone forever?

so my friend lost his sprint galaxy note 2 and we think it may have been factory reset, does this mean there is no way he will ever get the phone back?

Unfortunately I believe it is but you should be able to go to sprint and see if they can turn the gps on from their side. I don't remember if they can or not. Otherwise report it stolen and it'll ruin the ESN number so at least the ******* who stole it can't use it either.
