Default lock timeout driving me nuts!!

To access corporate email, I am required to PIN lock the device. That's fine with me, as I can set the timeout up to 30 minutes.

But each time I press the power button to turn off the screen to save power, or to prevent the phone from doing bad things when I stick it in my pocket, the timeout immediately expires, and I am forced to re-enter the PIN, even if I turn on the device before 30 minutes has expired.

This is seriously lame. My Samsung Droid Charge did not have this problem. Anyone find a way around this problem?

Try the app no lock. It bypasses the lock screen completely

I'm in the same boat. The minute the screen goes dark, boom you have to re enter your password. Sucks when you're trying to drive.

The no lock doesn't work, tried it, you still have to enter your password.

    I'll watch this thread intently.

What if you could lock your corporate email specifically, would you be able to remove the main pin lock? I use app protector pro to lock individual Apps from my little one. Works great, can lock using pattern or pin

The was the timeout is implemented is flat out stupid. In contrast, the Evo would have a security lock timeout that did not care if the screen was auto shut off or manually shut off. TW will only follow the timeout rule for auto shut off. It got so bad that I had to disable Widgetlocker since I almost always had to go through the security unlock screen anyway. It's the same way on my Galaxy Tab.

Note that we are talking about the pin/password security screen, not the general lock screen. Even without corporate rules, it's just a good idea to have the screen password protected.

App Protector Pro is totally fixing the issue. Actually, it's great because I can protect certain apps like email and contacts, but I can now use Widgetlocker and jump right to the camera from the lock screen since that doesn't need password protection.

    Thanks tkemack.

I have already mentioned this to Samsung and they claim they are escalating the issue. If you tweet at Samsung and let them know this is an issue for you as well, it's possible this will get some traction

Just to be clear... You have a corporate exchange account with a device administrator on your phone. App Protector Pro let's you apply a password to and lock down that account. You are then able to access all other features of the phone as if the device administrator wasn't installed?

    That would be awesome!

I can access the camera straight from the lock screen because it's not designated as locked. But if I want to go to email, I have to enter a lock code first, which unlocks the entire phone for a designated period (mine is set for 30 minutes). The app allows you to designate which programs are subject to lock and which aren't. There are other lock settings, that's just the one I use.

I tried touchdown. It still requires pin lock, but just for touchdown instead of the whole phone, which is a big improvement. It also doesn't reset the time out when power button is pressed, which is nice. But it is $20 after 30 day trial. And it cannot handle multiple email accounts like the stock client so I can also use gmail and yahoo mail with one client. The stock client is nicer, especially how it handles portrait mode. Guess I'll trial it and see how it goes.

I don't think this will work for corporate enforced lock policy using stock email client. If I understand you correctly, you are optionally applying a lock code to your email client. Your corporate email doesn't require pin lock, right?

I would suggest you take the phone to your IT dept with the program installed and see if they're cool with it. The mail is secured now, so it doesn't matter whether it's the native pin lock or not.

I have the same issue. I found that using an application called screen off works for me. It's not a perfect solution because you have to swipe back to the homescreen page that has the icon. Plus, even though the screen goes black it isn't really off for about 5 seconds. Still better than entering a password every time.

Two solutions depend on your using condition
    1. This is simple and 100% work in most phone
Using charging cable and turn on "settings">"Applications">"Development">"Stay awake"
this will keep screen from turn off and it will also prevent from lock timeout as well
    2. This is a tricky solution but better then Stay awake since it will still sleep just in longer time at your own choice timeout
Install "DroidLost" by "Theis Borg" from market, it(through website) have special options in "Control">"Security" that allow you to set "Screen timeout" and "Lock timeout" to any time in seconds separately.
This is much complicate and need some time to figure out how to use droidlost

    Good luck

It's in the settings of the phone (if I'm understanding this right). After you set the phone to lock screen with a pin, do this (hopefully this is available on your phone, it might be slightly different depending on software version)

    Settings=> device=> lock screen (under personalization)=>
Under lock automatically, change it to the time you want (before the phone requires a pin again)
Uncheck lock instantly with power key
