How big of a deal is the game crashing bug?
I'm looking to finally buy my first Android smart phone and I've been doing a lot of research and had finally decided on the Epic Touch 4G over the Photon. That is until I found out there is a bug where a lot of games will crash on this phone after 5 -10 minutes of usage.
How big of an issue is this? Is it on every Epic Touch, or just some? Does it occur on most all games or just a small handful? Also is there any word of a fix on the way?
I'm pretty bummed after finding this out, I've been waiting a long time to get an Android and was all set on getting the Epic Touch, now after reading about this I'm tempted to try and wait for Sprint to get the Galaxy Nexus but I really don't want to wait any longer. - 12-04-2011, 07:12 AM #2

I don't have a problem with games crashing but some do heat up my phone quite a bit like crazy snowboard and where's my water. I'm not sure if bigger or more power hungry games would cause a problem but I don't have an a problem. I just deal with the heat.

Do more research. It's not a non existent problem. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen to a lot of people on a lot of games.

I'm not certain just yet but mine has froze up three time on Fruit Slice, two times I was able to tap the return button, the last time I had to reboot it completely froze, watching to see if it happens anymore.

Re: How big of a deal is the game crashing bug?
I think the most common one was Plants vs Zombies. I personally haven't played long enough to see it crash. Its not a bug in the phone, it's a bug in the game. Usually developers push out bug fixes. All the new games that I have played haven't had any issues at all. The popular ones like Shadowgun, 9mm, Angry Birds, Sprinkle, etc. etc. all don't seem to have any issues on this phone.
I had an Evo 3d before this phone, and it had all sorts of problems with games crashing. - 12-04-2011, 06:27 PM #8
Re: How big of a deal is the game crashing bug?
I have about 25 games downloaded and play them often. The only 2 I have problems with are plants vs zombies, which crashes like 15 minutes in, and words wih friends, which freezes sometimes. I too was hesitant before buying the E4GT bc of reading that some games crash. It's somewhat of an issue but not that big of deal.

Re: How big of a deal is the game crashing bug?
I've been fortunate. The only thing I even saw was occasionally I would be playing Enjoy Sudoku and the level would just randomly reset. I was pretty confident it was an app issue. The devs pushed out an update and all is well in the world. No more resets. Outside of this, every game I play runs pretty much flawlessly.
As it has been mentioned Planets vs Zombies is the most widespread issue I've heard when it comes to game issues.Jeff

Re: How big of a deal is the game crashing bug?
Moral of the story...if you the game crashed, email the dev or write about it in the reviews for the game. Chances are, the Dev will fix it. Before you buy a game, read the reviews and hope someone mentioned they have the same phone as you.

I have found that putting bigger games on the sd card has minimized crashes.

Re: How big of a deal is the game crashing bug?
Sorry but it most definitely is a phone issue and not an individual game issue. It seems to come up in games or apps where you have to continually tap the same location. Where an often used button in Gamboid is for instance. I've had it happen in at least half a dozen apps and they were all where you were supposed to continually touch the same place on the phone.
