Default Does anyone know why this doesn't have NFC?

I'm going to be able to replace my Hero in a couple of months and was wondering if anyone knows why the Galaxy S2 doesn't have NFC on Sprint when all the other versions have it, and if there is something that can be done about it (I heard the NFC is in the battery of the Galaxy Nexus, if it is also in the battery for the Galaxy S2, can I just buy a battery from Verizon/AT&T and put it into this phone). As it currently stands I'm trying to decide between the S2 with an SD slot and no NFC or the Nexus with NFC but no SD slot (all of the other differences don't much matter to me).

my understanding is that the phone does not have the hardware so even a battery with nfc won't help. I think it's a question of time. I'm happy with the phone but don't feel a huge need for nfc. But I've already had the phone since October so I'm closer to being able to get a phone with nfc than if I bought it today.

Not a clue why they decided to exclude it. The other variants got NFC, we got a notification light. Honestly, until NFC is more than just a novelty, I'll take my notification LED.

NFC is a nice gimmick but I'll personally never use my phone to pay for stuff, lose my phone and now people are spending my money. It doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Lose your wallet--what's the difference. Actually, the phone is more secure, because you can have passwords, encryption, and remote wipe.

We are about five years behind on paying with our phone. It is very common in some Asian countries. It is here to stay. Wish our version of GS2 had the NFC but will have to wait until GS3 comes out I guess.

The future is here. We just have to catch up in the USA!

That is my opinion. The more people that use NFC, the more places will have the option. I already refuse to shop at places that won't take credit/debit cards.

I read somewhere that some company is able to put nfc technology in sd cards and would be backwards compatible with almost all phones. Maybe that will be an option?

Actually NFC is possible on the Samsung galaxy s2 on sprint, It is dormant and even in the samsung hardware press release doesnt mention it

but it is there, you will need a galaxy nexus battery!

but it works I am using my white gs2 sprint and just got $10.00 in free gas by setting up wallet, I recommend others use it.

If you want to access it, ill be posting a guide, also i can send you the rom i am working on based off the gs3 that will work on the gs2.

    thanks

Doesn't NFC require some type of hardwire like chip on the phone? I think that is a type, and not meant for the Sprint variant.

Don't forget that Sprint/Samsung for whatever reason also removed USB OTG capability from our phones!

I bought my wife her Galaxy S2 (Sprint version) and was shocked to see why this basic hardware was discounted.
There's a real simple way to work around this, use NFC MicroSD cards. I'm aware of Monteo which uses this, but am unsure if Google Wallet is compatible with MicroSD based NFC hardware
