When I have the sound mode toggled off(no green indicator from dropdown taskbar) and I longpress the power button, the menu inicates silent sound mode as OFF correct? Because ill have to reboot to get sound again even though I toggle the green button as "on" from the dropdown.

just try taking out the battery for a minute or so and try again. You should be able to use the drop down to get your sound back.
