Galaxy S2 @ Coachella

- So I went to Coachella week 1. I decided to wait a little to post this up on the count that not everyone had gone to week 2. I decided to take my Epic 4G touch and give it the ultimate test. Could I make it a whole day with a single battery? What apps would I need? Is it going to rain? Where are my friends? Do I have to carry around a stupid peace of paper that tells me when every band plays?
My journey started Tuesday night. I got off work and hurried to my truck. Luckily I have a car charger and a car dock to mount my phone on. I headed from El Centro, CA to San Diego, CA. My friends flight was coming in so I had to pick him up and then head for Indio,CA and enjoy the festivites. Two hours later around 9PM I needed to find the quickest way to get from San Diego to Indio. I had a route in mind but google maps suggested one that would shave an hour off my travels. I decided to take it. I went through a forest and was in and out of Sprint's service. Eventually I made it to the 74 east freeway. I will forever know this as the Road from Hell. AVOID THIS ROAD AT DARK. It gives you an amazing view of the Coachella area at night but you will crap yourself driving a truck through here.
Finally we make it to the Empire Polo Club Grounds. I text a friend and got the news that it took them 3 hours to get in and get a camp site. While everyone else were using their iPhones and losing signal like crazy I used my Google Music to play whatever we wanted to hear and not just CDs or the radio stations. By this point we were moving an inch every 5 minutes and luckily we made friends with a traffic director and he rushed us into a fast lane. It took us an hour to get through security and get our tent set up.
Friday morning we woke up and heard there was coffee near by. Somehow I was ok with having a hotdog from PINKS(LA) and coffee. We sat down on the grass and people watched to this view.
At this point my phone became a camera. I figured my battery would not last and decided to make airplane mode(APM) my friend. I would only turn off APM when I needed to use my phone, text, check Latitude to find each other. The stock Camera and Vignette apps are enough for me. I would only use Instagram when I wanted to share something. From here on out I'll let the pics do the talking. Enjoy
MY FAVORITE PIC
This Ol' Thing
Just Lindsay and Nick...
Also I did have some good videos but the bass in all of them just makes it unbearable.
My battery did last the whole day. It did rain a little. I did use Latitude a good amount to find my group. I downloaded the set list to my phone and I didn't bother with downloading the coachella app.(Needed Data to work). I learned that 99.9% of hipsters use iPhones. SOOO MANY iPHONES... Overall it was an amazing experience. If anyone ever gets the chance to do it I would say go and enjoy some good music. Never start a day at Coachella in the Sahara tent(It will drain you). Stay hydrated and apply sunscreen 3-4 times daily.04-24-2012 07:30 PMLike 7
- Niceee panoramic shot! Did you ride the ferris wheel? Was this the week with the Tupac hologram? Where exactly is this located? I know it's on the West coast near the desert? Great pics tho reminds me of Lalapolooza here in Chicago! what was the count Apple to Android 10 to 1? Damn lemmings!04-25-2012 09:43 AM
- Thanks for the report.
Nice outdoor and panoramic pics.
Once again though it's proven that cell phones are next to useless to take concert photos. Makes you wonder why thousands concert goers each day insists to take photos no one including themselves will ever want to see again.04-25-2012 10:16 AM
- @Samsmalls No I didn't get to ride the ferris wheel... This was the week with Holo Tupac. I was too far away for any pictures. This is about 2 hours east of LA. North of the Salton Sea.
@NekoCase They had a rule about no professional cameras so nothing with an extended lens.
@davidk365 Afrojack was pretty cool but I don't think he topped David Guetta.04-25-2012 03:54 PMLike 1
