ICS is rolling out again.
I woke up to the ICS update notification screen this morning, 7/31. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Re: ICS is rolling out again.
Is there any way for someone to capture the link for the file as was done with the previous update so folks can try another manual update? Is there any way to determine if this update is any different from the one pushed out two weeks ago?

Re: ICS is rolling out again.
Just got off the phone with SAMSUNG level 2 support. He said that *YES* there has been a updated fix for ICS 4.0.4 and it is being released in 'waves' thru SPRINT. Everyone will be notified via their phone when the updated fix is available for them. Guess the waiting game is *on* again..

Fool me once.. shame on you.. Fool me twice.... I dont think so...
I'm sticking with EL29 until I know this "new" ICS build is as solid as GB EL29... - 07-31-2012, 10:43 AM #14

Re: ICS is rolling out again.
Got my refurb replacement phone yesterday with GB. Love it. Works just how it should. I'm in love with the phone all over again. Now this morning I wake up and it says there is an update available. ICS! I keep telling it no. Is there a way to tell it no for ever? Until of course I manually go in and say get the update. I don't want it now and I'm sick of hitting later and cancel.

I did the same same thing. I manually updated with the link from xds. Guess I'll stay tuned as to what I should do next.

Re: ICS is rolling out again.
My gut tells me this is just the previous update resuming its roll out. If this was a newer version I believe strongly that we would have heard about it already. I'm of the opinion that this resumption is Sprint simply prepping for another update.
Updates are typically a delta, or change, from a previous version. Since Sprint didn't rollback the previous update and revert back to GB, they need phones to be on a particular version in order to install another update. I believe this is them doing that. - 07-31-2012, 01:59 PM #20

Re: ICS is rolling out again.
This is my thought as well - on my last phone (O.G. Epic) the updates from eclair to froyo and then froyo to GB were both followed within a few weeks by a 2nd update which fixed many of the common bugs. I think this is samsung's standard operating procedure. They got ICS out there, had the world perform their beta testing
and once the bugs were found they start working on a 2nd more solid update.

Re: ICS is rolling out again.
How did you go about doing the rollback to GB? I went to the Sprint store and they flat out told me it was not possible - that the only were installing the new software going forward (ICS). Are they lying to me? What did you say in order to get them to roll it back. I hate what this update has done to my phone.

Re: ICS is rolling out again.
I found the new file to have some additional lines in the updater-script:
Code:
So we are looking at a fix for the swype issue a lot of people reported right away - wonder if this is the only difference...Code:mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p10", "/data"); delete_recursive("/data/data/com.swype.android.inputmethod"); unmount("/data");
After some further digging, it is my opinion that the swype data clear is the ONLY difference in the 7/31 update - in other words this is exactly the same as FF18 if you hit "clear data" on swype.Last edited by rocket321; 07-31-2012 at 03:21 PM.
