Wifes E4GT serious issues

So my wifes phone keeps powering off when you turn it on. It also completely drains the battery in one second...goes from having battery to 0%. It has 4.04 its also a refurbished phone. Any suggestions? Would a hard reset even work? Ive already taken out the battery for extended periods of time with no luck.

Check the battery. Take it out, place it flat on a table and try to spin it. If it is bulging it will spin easily. Bulging batteries are almost-dead batteries.

I agree with everyone else, new battery is needed. My friends E4GT didn't correct after that and so she had to get it replaced on her plan. No loss on getting the new battery first as it is always good to have an extra.
