Ruined my wife's Christmas - Softbricked new phone
Howdy y'all
I sure hope someone has a solution for me, because I am literally physically sick over what I have done to the gift I got my wife for Christmas.
I upgraded her OG Evo 4G and got her the S3. When rooting it I have put it into a state where the phone boots, but I don't have a working screen.
I can get into the recovery I installed during the root process, CWM 5.0.2.
I can get into the download ( or Odin mode?)
Normal boot, I hear the sound that goes along with the Sprint splash screen, but I see nothing on the Screen after the "Samsung Galaxy S3"
After the first go at rooting I did get into the OS and download Busybox from the Play store, but it told me I was not rooted. So I tried the root process again.
This is not the process posted here. It is one I found on XDA. Where you use Odin 3.04 to load clockworkmod.tar and then flash CWM_SuperUser_v3 in recovery.
It was after the second time I ran this that things went bad.
In my efforts to fix it I have done a factory data reset from within recovery. I guess that turns off USB debugging.
I don't know if it's the recovery, or the bootloader on a Samsung being different than my HTC, but I can't seem to mount the USB in recovery so I can transfer files to the phone. I'd like to try the root method posted here, but I can't seem to transfer files onto this phone to fix my problem until after my problem is fixed.
My first thought was to return it to the Radio Shack where I bought it and play dumb. But If I can get to download mode and see the fact that it's been modified 11 times, than I figure they can too.
I need to get this phone to a workable state. Preferably rooted.
I feel like such a tool for wrecking her Christmas. - 12-19-2012, 07:21 PM #2"I drank what!?!?!" ~Socrates

Re: Ruined my wife's Christmas - Softbricked new phone
I downloaded the file. Ran it which extracted it with 7 zip.
I booted the phone into Download mode.
Ran the extracted executable which was a nice wrappered version of Odin.
Connected the phone with USB cable. Odin recognized something there and enabled the Start button.
Once click and 20 -30 minutes later I had a usable phone back.

Hmm just a question, did your wife want the phone rooted or did you, because it's kind of useless to do so if the owner of the phone doesn't know what it is or how to use it.
