if you dont have LTE in your area when the phone releases, does your phone just switch to 4g or does it run on 3g?

i live in NY and im not sure if we are going to be one of the first to get LTE, and i currently have a 3g phone

Your phone will be 3g only until you have lte available. Not sure if the s3 will have lte turned off by default or not, but once it is available the s3 will be able to connect to the new lte system (never the old wimax system though).

LTE and 4G(wimax) are 2 different signals/frequencies.
