Here is my screen. Totally changed it but not ready to jump ship and use a launcher. Hope you get some ideas from mine.

Nova Launcher Prime

Here's how I have Nova Launcher Prime set up:

Single press home button-> Go to home screen, double press home button-> launch Google search (same as pressing the magnifying glass on older Android phones), long press menu button-> launch Google Voice Search, double tap home screen-> launch S-Voice, swipe up on home screen-> launch app drawer, swipe down on home screen-> expand notification bar.

There are tons more options, but here are some things I've used/currently use that I really like.

Checkout Zedge from the Play Store for a great variety of high quality wallpapers.

Beautiful Weather/Widgets or HD Widgets for Clock/Weather Widgets.

Nova or Apex launcher for a lot of dock and homescreen customizations.

Android Pro Widgets for some slick, customizable widgets, if you want to use the widgets they offer (Facebook, Twitter, Calendar, Bookmarks, Messaging, etc).

Not sure what you mean about the notification bar theme. I am not rooted and I havent changed anything, besides running Nova.

I also have only 3 home screens. I have the main with my most freq used apps, next has to do list and calender widgets, the last all my other apps I like to use and have handy categorized into folders. Nice knowing the extra screens are there, but I don't know what to do with them, lol
