the S3 is the 1st Samsung phone for me (pre, Evo, 3d). Very impressed so far - still can't get over how thin and light it is, tho the Evo LTE I originally went in to get is about the same?

I liked Sense, and trusted 4.0 would be even better. TW will take some getting used too, but nothing I hate yet. Phone is snappy, display good (Is it just me or did the Evo seem brighter in the store?) ibdint think I'll be disappointed.

This may be crazy, but the one thing that might make me return this for the Evo: the phone app. I know things aren't going to seem intuitive until I use it for awhile, but I'm not sure it'll ever be as quick to use. Opening phone app on all previous phones opened a screen containing both the keypad and a log of calls now I've got to choose each time. Might be petty, but I curse a little still each time no open the phone app.

Is this normal for Samsung? Am I missing something. I've never had to think about the need for a different phone app, is there even such a thing?

I should also say: I really miss the ability to just hit a previous call in the log and dial right away (instead of opening the contact and having to make another selection to call), on the 3d there was a little button to press on that previous call to open a dialog to text instead.

Feels weird to have this kind of gripe with such an amazing device...

I agree with you on this. It is a problem on all Samsung Android devices. They need to learn a thing or two from HTC on this one, I may get scolded for this but it's true. At the very least it should be something that's an option.

I made this same observation in my initial response to review first impressions of this device. Coming from an Evo, I share your point of view. What I just now recalled from reviewing the manual is that when you pull up the call log, you can swipe to the left to message contact and swipe to the right and it instantly calls. So that does help eliminate that extra step from viewing the call log, clicking contact than clicking call or message button.

Also, if you have the phone screen up and have the 'logs' tab selected, when you close and reopen app it remains on logs. Granted, it would be nice if both the logs and pad were integrated, but if you dial more frequently from your log this makes it quicker to just use the swipe left or right I described above.

now that you mention it, the swipe thing is a nice touch, and helpful - I'll have to train myself to use that.

Still stand by my minor gripe - I guess I've got another 10 days or so to see if I get used to it, or if it's a deal breaker.

Thanks for the reminder

..

when your looking at the log...dont tap your contacts...

swipe to the left to text....swipe to the right to call...:D

EDIT* I need to stop leaving tabs open on my computer...or at least refresh before I post :(

I had the same opinion as you. After a few days with my S3 I love the phone but hate the dialer. Luckily, there are many alternative dialers that you can download.

....just to name a few.

I'm using TouchPal currently but I'll probably try the others before I make a decision.

Good luck!
