A co-worker of mine showed me how to free up some space in the notification bar when my head phones are plugged in. You can do this by disabling the application in the settings. You can find it by going to your settings-applications-all and disabling ContextAwareServices and enjoy the extra room.

Without knowing everything that app does, I have to wonder if disabling it is a good idea. Unchecking the Show notifications option will probably eliminate the icon while not impacting the normal operation of the program.

edit: If you go to Settings / Accessory, and uncheck "Audio applications", it will get rid of this icon and the audio app bar that shows up when you pull down the notification shade.
