Default My micro sd card (8 gb, HC) stopped working!!!!

I tried to listen to some music and notice that all my music was gone. So I check "My Files" on my phone (GSIII) and my sd card was not coming up. So I tried to pull the card up on my computer with the same results. Can sd cards burn out? Can it be fixed? HELP!!!!!!

The same thing happened to be on my sd card. I have note 2. Only reason I could think of is my card is a generic so it probably wasn't good quality. I put it into my computer and recovered files. I went ahead and purchased a sandisk card. Is your card generic?

No. It's made by Samsung. but I had the card for 3-4 years. iIt came with my old phone, HTC Evo 4G.

There has been major issues with s3 and sd cards. I had a San disk 32 gb class 4 go bad on me. At times the phone falsely notified me that the card was unmounted. Then files disappeared and ended up in the lost.dir file but without a name and basically lost. In my opinion there is a major bug with this phone (and maybe the galaxy note as well) and sd cards, but Samsung is ignoring it. Just Google Samsung Galaxy s3 and SD problems and you'll see what I mean. Anyways I have since switched to another San disk but this time a 32 GB class 10 and so far (knock on wood...) I'm not having issues!

My Note 2 stopped recognizing a Patriot 32gb class 10 card. The card is also undetectable by both my macbook and my windows rig. My guess is that the card went bad and not the phones fault. I could be wrong.

My S33 has fried 3 cards for me. Two SanDisk 32Gb class 10 and one Transcend 16Gb class 6.
First 32Gb was replaced under warranty. Guess I have to send the other one back too.
There's is really something wrong about S3 handling SD-cards

Same thing just happened to me, hence I am here on the forums. 8gb, HC by SAMSUNG...not showing up on my Note 2, computer, or friend's phone. What gives? Worked fine on my EVO 4G too for years!

You've probably reached the "end-of-life" of your card if it's 3-4 yrs old and used for those 3-4 yrs. The usual lifetime of an sd card is about 100,000 write cycles.

I'm glad I found this information in the forums. I thought it was my phone that was damaged. It is easier to buy a new sd card than deal with sprint on repairs or replacing my phone.

mine just went out in my evo same issue not recognized and i have tried different phones and a card adapter in my computer is there nothing else I can do. This card has a lot of pictures of my daughters first year on it and i would love to get them. Is there a way to get the files off of the card even if the card has craped out?

    Welcome to the forums!
If your computer can't read the card, then probably not. I could very well be wrong, and I would encourage you to keep asking, even checking out a PC forum.

    Good Luck!

Sd cards can eventually go bad. I think this was the case for you. Hopefully, you had everything backed up?

I had a Sandisk 32 GB class 10 and went dead with my Samsung S3. Can't even recover anything now. Sigh.. read that Sandisk admitted their fault via this link:

There is definitely a problem with the Galaxy S3 burning out SD cards. I've had 4 brand new cards bite the dust. I've tried different brands, classes and sizes including a Samsung card recommended by the manufacturer. It doesn't matter. I don't have hopes of finding any one card that will not burn out. I have accepted this as a fact. I have only had the phone for a little over 7 months and have been through 4 cards. I started out with a nice expensive 32GB class 10 Sandisk card and have progessed to cheap 8GB class 4 cards Kingston, Sandisk, etc. that I can find cheap, because I know in a month to 2 months top I will get the Mount SD card notification and the card will become useless in the phone and not recognized via card reader on the PC. After putting a new card in, everything will work as expected until the next burn out. Anyone trying to blame this on anything other than a problem in the Samsung device is ignoring the problem just like Samsung seems to be doing. I probably should go to the hassle of returning cards under warranty. I did return a couple to the store where I bought them, but I have finally just accepted the phone flaw and try to buy cards at about $7 including shipping since I now concider this a disposable memory card situation. Oh, and I have an international unlocked I9300 Galaxy S3 .... so I don't think it is limited to carrier/model of the SIII. J

Everyone here!! Please get a dropbox account asap!! Your files are never safe on any form of hardware... You might think they are, but no. If you have more than 300 songs, that you didnt pay for, dropbox is the way to go, backups are very essential.
