LG G2 native email app Spell Checker problem

Hello Forum Members,

I have an LG G2, running the native email application.

Sometime recently (don't know when exactly) the red-line spell check system that was working in the email app no longer functions at all, no spell check at all, nothing. "Auto-Correction" works, but no spell check.

In settings, at language & input, I have the LG keyboard selected with spell check enabled. (text spell check occurs in the native text app, but no email spell check is happening)

Also, I've tried the option to select the android keyboard with its spell check enabled, to no avail either.
Also downloaded the Good Keyboard, options enabled, and no luck with that either.

(one interesting note, the LG Keyboard is always selected, even if I "also" select either the Android Keyboard, or the Google Keyboard, I can never deselect the LG Keyboard, don't' know if this issue is related or not to the email spell checker not working)

Please help, not having a spell checker functioning is a "pian en da butte".
