SMS sent photos upside down
I've found that every time I try to send a photo (from my gallery) with a text message, the photo displays upside down. I thought maybe it just showed that way on my phone, but I verified it on a friend's phone today - the photo they received from me was upside down.
Any way to fix this? - 07-13-2011, 07:57 PM #2
Re: SMS sent photos upside down
Are you left handed? Did you take the picture upside down? Lol.

Re: SMS sent photos upside down
That's too funny. I guess I am kind of ambidextrous w/ some things, but mostly right handed. With the way that everything for the camera auto-rotates (even w/ auto rotate screen off), it never occurred to me that I might be holding it the "wrong way" when shooting horizontal photos. I thought your comment was just being a smarta**, but it helped fix the problem
Thnx!

Re: SMS sent photos upside down
I'm actually having similar issues. I take photos with the phone upright and the photos display upright in my gallery. Then as soon as I try to send a SMS to someone and insert the picture it puts the photo sideways to send to them and there is no way to adjust it! Anyone else having this problem?

Same problem here, take a photo in portrait, looks fine in the gallery then once I send it via MMS it switches orientation to landscape and there's no way to control it.

Re: SMS sent photos upside down
This has been a problem on tons of Samsung phones since the beginning of Android. It has to do with the EXIF data not properly being read. The Gallery (or JustPictures!, for example) sees it as what it should be. However, any SMS/Picasa upload/Facebook upload intents just show it sideways. It's ridiculous.
I found a work-around to be go into the Gallery, crop the picture but select the entire thing, then select crop. You'll get a new copy of the image, and it will send in the right orientation. The downside is that the damn Gallery makes the picture like 90% compressed and it loses all EXIF data like Camera model, ISO, etc. - 07-15-2011, 08:02 AM #13
Re: SMS sent photos upside down
I've found that the only way they show the correct orientation when sent via email or SMS is if you take the picture holding the phone in landscape position with the home button at the top and the back button at the bottom. Holding the phone upright when you take a picture results in pics that appear correctly in the gallery, but when you email or sms them, they are always rotated incorrectly.

Re: SMS sent photos upside down
Read the manual. It states on page 231 of the user guide right off Sprints website that "You can send text (SMS) messages of up to 160 characters to another mobile phone. If you keep typing after the limit, your message is delivered as a series of messages."
So I dunno what the deal is but they need to get this corrected asap! - 07-19-2011, 01:36 PM #16

Re: SMS sent photos upside down
I don't have an issue when sending or uploading pictures. They always show up the right way. For the record.
