ICS Update for the Nexus S 4G Discussion Thread

Amen. I'm looking at the instructions to get CM9 on my HP Touchpad and I've spent days trying to psych myself into it...all just to get friggin' Netflix on a tablet.

I did this. Getting cm9 on the touchpad is soooo frickin easy.

There's a great walkthrough on the precentral forums.

I know...but it seems like there are a lot of steps where it could go wrong.

I wish Android was more like Apple in the updates department. This waiting game sucks. I thought the beauty of a Nexus was earlier updates? Guess not...

What saved my skin when i started to root and rom was YouTube. Just a wealth of helpful people on there.

So my friend put Cyanogen 9 Mod or whatever its called just because I wanted ICS and so far I like it alot.
The menus, the navigation is fairly smooth, 4G works fine, so does tethering (although it takes longer to Connect now to the phone now for some reason but it still does) ....
He did it yesterday and a couple times when I would open GMail the screen would flicker really really weird and it was the first time my phone had EVER done that. It also did that a couple times when I would open the Browser. It was really weird.... I was typing up a text message and suddenly it restarted too. (1 restart since yesterday at 4pm)
For some reason (even though its check to vibrate on press) when I type to text or input text or whatever on the keyboard it does not vibrate. Have no idea why this is the biggest thing thats botherin me right now...

Aside from that the only other cosmetic thing is that when I have wifi tether running, or when I get a Message on Yahoo Messenger the notification icons on the left of the notification bar are suuuuper tiny......

Aside from those things I love it.

For those that are running the same "ROM" as me, do you guys experience the same problems as me?

(the screen flicker stopped it seems already and so did the restarts) right now I think the only thing that is not working is the Vibrating when I text even though its on

I just flashed the new leak, so far so good nice and smooth not sure about the radio as I don't get a good signal at my house. I will test it tomorrow at work.

is there an update.zip version of this? i want to flash it but i already have 4.0.4 flashed through odin and id prefer not root my phone again

hi. new to this forum, but i've been following this thread for awhile. just wondering how do you guys know that it's official? what's the source? the wait for ics on our nexus s 4g's have been long over due.

The files in the update are actual 4.0.4 files with updates WiMax and wifi drivers. Also, the person who leaked it (who's also the source) has known ties with Sprint.

This came from Sprint but no one knows if it'll be the final release or not. We're pretty much in the same boat as the old 4.0.4 leak except this time there's an actual ROM with it.

....Ha I just got my phone rooted and got the Cyanogen 9 thing with ICS just to get ICS. Is it even worth doing a factory reset since I installed all my old apps and I have my phone how I want, is it even worth going stock just to install this?

Not really... The version of CM9 your running may already be updated to 4.0.4.

The radio you can flash separately if you want to update the radio which is a plus...

See this thread for the radio in the OP.

Yes I can add to this.. Korey Nicholson was known back in the day on the Samsung Epic 4g for leaking Odin tars for that device. He has some ties to people in Sprint, so I would say this is a good source/leak.

With the leak build that was released earlier in the year will it get the Sprint update when they start rolling out the updates OTA

Loving the 4.0.4 build so far. It's screaming fast in comparison to the last 4.0.4 build that was a supposed leak.

I don't notice much of a difference in speed. The new build doesn't have the bug where the keyboard would get stuck when exiting out of an app which is good.

just installed it and it's amazing! not sure how it compares to other 4.0.4 builds, but i came from stock gingerbread.

I only flashed the radio. I seem to get an extra bar at my house. Not sure about speeds yet, but so far so good.
