SMS & MSG app staying awake

I'm currently using handcent and i'm noticing several issue with my txt msg. At times i picture msg do not download. Other time it would download. I'm not able to send pictures with my native msg app or handcent. Any one else having the issue. I tried contacting SPrint but the person helping were one of those BS'er who tries to blame the user. She was telling me if i have low data connectivity i would have this type of issue.
