Any Final Word on Bluetooth Version?
Previously I have seen that, unfortunately, the Photon would release with BT v 2.1. Has anyone seen specs that say otherwise and that it might be more up to date, say 3 or newer?
Also, to my understanding this is not something that can be firmware updated (i.e. - if it ships with 2.1, that is what she stays with) in the future.
Right now I am nursing my Sprint TP2 along waiting for firmer specs for the Photon and GSII and possibly a dark horse surprise iPhone. Really wish manufacturers weren't so guarded with their specs these days.
Any thoughts and feedback appreciated. - 07-21-2011, 03:14 PM #2
Re: Any Final Word on Bluetooth Version?
There really is no difference between 2.1 +EDR and 3.0.
3.0 only introduced a small packet data transfer that doesn't require a handshake and better power management, other then that the stack and protocols are the same. And before you say it there is no speed increase with BT 3.0 itself unless it is BT3.0 +HS and the +HS is BT controlling the 802.11(WIFI) chip to transmit the data. - 07-21-2011, 06:26 PM

Re: Any Final Word on Bluetooth Version?
Speed is not the question. What is the question though is Bluetooth 2.1 having issues with some phones in pairing up to cars Bluetooth for music. 3.0 and Higher is "supposed" to be much better.
Heck even the new MacBook Air has BT 4.0. Thanks. - 07-21-2011, 07:54 PM #4
