Does the call actually go through but theres no sound or voice on your side? If that's the case it's a known issue and there's another post regarding this. I have that issue which I tested by calling myself. Once I dialed the other phone started to ring but on the Photon I didn't hear a dialtone, nor the phone ringing.
 
Wow! What do you use a phone for?

I carried a pda for years, and eventually upgraded to a gadget that was not only a pda, but also a portable email device. That it happened to also work as a phone was a nice fringe benefit, but not something I've ever used a whole lot. Calendar, contacts, and emails are what i mostly carry a gadget for.

Ok, I took my Photon back to Best Buy, traded it in for their last one, so far no issues with the new one, I'll post again tomorrow with an update.
By the way, I had the XPRT for a week, it never did this to me or had major issues.
 
Same thing happened to me. Bought the phone Monday and out of the box it was dead and even charging it it wouldn't turn on. The rep from Best Buy switched the battery on it and it turned on. Should've known though that was a bad omen.

On Tuesday, 3 times throughout the day I would put my phone in my pocket and when I would take it out it was completely dead. Only way to turn it on was to take the battery out.

Not to take any chances I went to Best Buy after work and exchanged it for a new one. The new one she grabbed also was DOA. So I had her grab another new one. This one turned on just fine straight out of the box so I'm hoping this is a good sign.

Have only had this one for about a day but so far so good.

Don't risk it. If this is happening to you just return it. We all know the first batch of a new phone usually has a few lemons. Just exchange it.
 
That's different (and much worse) than what I have. Mine sometimes doesn't quite make or receive phone calls. Everything else works smoothly, every time.

Ok, it happened to me again. I was testing VM notifications and called to leave myself a VM to see if it would vibrate every few minutes until I checked it. Nothing for about 10 minutes, so I tried to turn it on....TRIED. It would not come up.

Instead of a battery pull, I connected the power cable (actually hooked to my computer, not the power brick) and a white LED came on. Held down the power button and it started to power up. At least that is better than a battery pull if you are nearby a cable.

This has got to be fixed. I don;t think switching with another device will be the remedy.

Are any of you using an Airave? Have had major issues with this bug. Power cycling and battery pulls help but only temporarily. Sprint is sending me a replacement but I'm concerned!

I am using Google Voice with Sprint Integration and an Airave but when I was out running errangs yesterday calls were flawless. When I got home again the problems started back up. Today audio was completely out until I power cycled the phone.

Not good Sprint and Motorola. You would think that pre-release testing would've caught this bug. While talking to Sprint level 2 support last night they said this audio bug was a known issue and that a software update in mid-August was supposed to address this issue.

Best of luck to those of you who rely on this as your business phone or only phone. I did try to get the level 2 support specialist to give me some identifying information on the bulletin so I could reference it here but he said there was no identifying support bulletin #.
I have had this happen when I am away from my Airrave, so that is not problem. Turning an old phone off is not a problem, Bluetooth is not a problem. This is a software problem. I have tried 3 Photons already and it happened with all three. It is a software problem and we need to keep complaining to Sprint and Motorola so they can fix this before our 30 days are up. If not, they will be getting thousands of phones back. Everyone I know with a Photon has this problem along with some others that aren't quite so serious.

One other major problem I have is that If I am on the phone and someone calls me it immediately goes to voicemail. It happened on all three that I had. I had it happen at my house and in public and this is serious problem #2. Many people wouldn't care about this, but if one of my family members need to get a hold of me while I am already on the phone, I need to at least have the option of refusing the call or not.

I love this phone, but they better fix these two serious issues immediately! Are you reading these forums Motorola?

I don't think manufacturers care what we say in these forums.

Each returned phone costs them about $100. Money matters. Words don't. If your phone is defective, return it.

I know they are listening, I just called a MOTOROLA rep and we spoke briefly. He/Moto is aware of the issue and are working on it.

I'm experiencing the same random shut down's. This seems to drain my battery down to zero. On one occasion I had only disconnected from a charger about 1 hour at home...went to work...the phone shutdown...and on connecting back to a usb charger, the phone started recharging at 5 percent for about 2/3 minutes...then shot up to fully charged. Today is the first day this has happened, but it has happened 3 times in 8 hours. Not happy after waiting for a solid Motorola product.

I am having the same problem with the calls! Can make and receive, but no sound for neither me nor the recipient. I read somewhere that Motorola is coming out with a fix by "middle of this month". Don't like the sound of that...

I got a Photon on launch day from BB, and I have not had this issue come up. The phone has never restarted, and I have not encountered the silent phone call issue (but google voice search didn't work once, so I had to restart, could it be a mic issue?). I think I am one of the lucky few who didn't get stuck with a faulty photon.

That is not to say my phone is perfect. The in pocket protection mode still doesn't work (most probably because the light sensor does not continuously function, only after lock/unlock). This is not a defect, but a coding error, so I can't fault my device in particular. Battery life is also not as stellar as advertised.

Ok, here's the update, new Photon does not have this problem so far, it's worked great for a day and a half without shutting down or doing anything dumb. Loving it! Glad I returned the other one to Best Buy.
