Camera Focus seems rough

When I take a pic with the Photon, it seems like the phone has to run the camera lens through the entire range of focal length before settling on a focus for the shot. It is like it runs the lens all the way in and back out before getting to the spot where it decides the picture is in focus.

Is this unique to the Photon, or do other Moto devices behave like this?

It seems like a poor way to focus a shot, and I don't think pics are always coming out as clear as they could. Any way to get the camera to pre-focus?

You can get the camera to focus by holding down the shutter softkey in the top right section of the phone. Hold it down, it will focus, then when you release, it will take the picture.

I wish the camera was like my old BB, half press camera button down, focus lock, all the way down took the picture.
