New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
some type of update is available... I'm new to Android, coming from the Pre... so don't know if this is a maintenance release (MR) or what... but it's out... 45.2.7.en.us.

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
I think this phone now has as many updates as my Epic did in a year.

Nice to see Motorola staying on top of the updates. Wifi improvements? Awesome. My wifi is pretty solid. The release notes are pretty small on it. Just says improves a wifi aspect. I love the radios on this phone, they are great.

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
Update went smooth no battery pull needed, however; I did lose root access.

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
Mine is failing, I am rooted. One guy on XDA reports that he had to flash stock in order to get the update to work. Although I have read several rooters have been able to update.

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
I did lose root. So I will be reapplying here from work. From an update standpoint, the signal strength seems about the same but the throughput is a bit better. Anyone else out there experience a better throughput overall. Speedtest and also just use was a bit snappier.

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
I initially rooted with shabby's one click. Update went smooth, I did lose root but shabby's one click got me rooted again. The the whole process took 15 minutes.

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
If you used photon torpedo to root previously, you can run these commands from the phone after applying the update (using ConnectBot or any other command line app):
/data/tmp/photon-torpedo.sh
(with root@localhost:/# still on command line) /data/tmp/install-su.sh
I did notice that when I try to turn on Wi-Fi after the update, it won't turn on, saying Error when attempting to turn it on in the Settings menu.
UPDATE: After 2 battery pulls (the 1st battery pull was out of the phone around 20secs, 2nd was around 3mins), I got my Wi-Fi working again.Last edited by CMark1; 09-14-2011 at 11:51 AM.

Rooting sounds like a pain. What are the benifits? Anyone have a good link for a run down on the reason(s) for rooting? - 09-14-2011, 11:54 AM #14
Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
Wireless tethering without having to pay a monthly fee.
Able to install and use backup utilities like Titanium backup. - Allows you to back up all the apps and settings on your phone.
Able to remove more bloatware if you wish.
For me the main reason was to delete the old version of Swype and install the new one, which is much better.
More reasons of course, but those are the ones that come to mind for me. - 09-14-2011, 12:57 PM #15
Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
My biggest - and maybe only - reason was so I could change the lcd density of the screen allowing me to read my phone without reading glasses. My old eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be and I would struggle without glasses. Now I don't need them.. at least for awhile.
With the one-click it isn't a pain at all. - 09-14-2011, 01:26 PM #16
Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
No not normally a pain. Its easy to root with the work many of these fine developers have done. Most of the time rooting your phone will not prevent OTA updates although most likely you have to root again after. I am pretty surprised with the very minor changes I made mine is failing,

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
I just performed the new update as well and I did lose root, as expected. The problem I have is that when I originally rooted, I used the "one click" by djrbliss so I figured after the update, I could use the same thing to root again. It seems that the "root" is not being applied. I'm thinking that I have to remove the super user, titanium backup, root explorer first, then try to re-root and reinstall these programs? Immediately after the update and re-root I tried to open TBackup and got an error saying it could not acquire root priviledges. Am I doing something wrong here?

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
EDIT: I re-rooted using the 'ShabbyPenguin AIO" and achieved root. I installed root explorer and wi-fi tether and both asked for root permission, so I know that I am rooted again. However, I tried to reinstall Titanium Backup (I have the pro key already installed) but when I try to open it, it says that I have no root privileges as if I'm not rooted. Has anyone else had this problem? How can I resolve it?
Thanks! - 09-14-2011, 06:13 PM #21
Make sure you have superuser installed and it can open. That is the program that grants other programs root.

This update will work fine for those who are only rooted meaning still on stock rom and still locked bootloader but have SU. It is kind of tricky in that even after the update I still had SU.apk installed and it looked and opened fine but was not granting permission properly. The good news is the same exact root process works after the update which is a refreshing change from what I'm used to.
Also while I have your attention, hello to all those I know from my past phones/work! Yes, i'll be rocking the photon for a couple months

Re: New Update! 45.2.7.en.us
After the update, Agile stopped working properly. When I first installed it, it replaced the slider and my password pattern. Now, I have to do all three to get to home screen.
