Re: OTA: 10/12
Well, although a colossal PITA, the OTA is working fine now.
Started with stock rooted. Nothing modded or deleted.
Took forever to download and install - 16 hrs - needed a battery pull.
Ran OCR - Root Check said I'm not rooted. Then got the "SU binary out of date"; SU failed to update when I tried manually. Uninstalled SU (v3 with Elite add-on), reinstalled, now rooted OK. Problem here may be that OCR was pushing old SU v2 stuff to phone and corrupting my v3 install (?).
Battery at 90% after 7 hours at work with WiFi and push-Exchange (which is better than normal)
USB charging working fine.
There is obviously something flawed with this OTA. Prior ones were quick and easy.... It's good that Moto is starting to use a group of folks like us to beta test future updates to avoid releasing a screwed up OTA like this one.. - 10-14-2011, 07:56 PM #78
Re: OTA: 10/12
same boat as you - how do you uninstall superuser though? It's just there - can't get it to uninstall. I just re-rooted the phone via OCR and it seems to be ok now. No longer getting the error su binary out of data for now. root check says i'm rooted, hopefully this will fix things. I removed the widgetlocker also since i'm reading on other boards that that is a major problem also.
thanks. - 10-14-2011, 08:48 PM #79

I updated mine ota and all is fine. Just plugged up to charge after 9 and a half hours, and still had 20 percent left! I have twitter updating every minute, 4 emails with them set to push, facebook updating every 5 minutes, several phone calls, numerous texts, a little web browsing, updated some apps.

Re: OTA: 10/12
From my phone, went to Market, My Apps, selected SU, clicked Uninstall; then re-installed in the same way. (I use SU v3 and bought the Elite add-on, so did it for both)
I'd never heard of nor used widgetlocker, and from looking at it on Market, not convinced it has enough downloads/reviews to be a root cause. On the Interwebs, someone posts something, it gets reposted everywhere, and one data point becomes commonly accepted truth. - 10-14-2011, 11:46 PM #83
I also updated ota, and have no problems. I see zero difference, for good or ill from this update.

Re: OTA: 10/12
Alright folks...having some pretty big trouble and looking for thoughts.
Running a stock, non-rooted phone. Installed this update OTA and is now locked in a constant reboot cycle. It will boot to the lock screen, sit for a minute or so, and then reboot. Unlocking reveals a number of error/force close screens, eventually resulting in a reboot. Does not even load widgets. I THINK the update failed (got the message once, but it restarted very quickly and I can't be sure.
What can I do? - 10-15-2011, 06:20 AM #85

manual hard reset

Re: OTA: 10/12
WidgetLocker is not the sole cause, but it's a common one. I've seen numerous examples of users fixing their battery problems with this update simply by disabling WL, including me. I tried all sorts of things before I did this: reboots, battery pulls, turning off syncing, etc., and nothing worked. When the phone continued to drain with airplane mode on, I knew it wasn't the radios or data causing the problem. One poster said they used Spare Parts (Pro?) to locate a conflict between WL and Launcher Pro Plus. I didn't have LPP but I did have WL, so I disabled WL.
Presto, battery normal. I wouldn't have believed it myself if I had not seen it. However, I've heard of at least one case where GetJar was the culprit with someone who also did not have WL installed. My advice for this has been to disable WL if you have it, and to start uninstalling apps one by one (or in small groups) if you don't. Battery monitor does not show the app as the source, so my guess is something is causing the app to constantly wake the phone up through some process not directly related to the app itself. - 10-15-2011, 12:28 PM #87
Re: OTA: 10/12
OK..so it's been a little while since I took out widget locker. Seems to have done the trick...I think.so I went to bed at around 2:30AM and noticed that my battery was at 27%. When I woke up this morning a little after 10AM, battery was at 23%. I have Green Power and set it to night mode, which keeps the cell radio on, but disables data. That's not bad at all. So, I guess in my case, widget locker was the issue.
On the flipside, the phone seems to charge really slow after this update. And this is with the wall charger. Phone used to charge really fast before
All I can say is that this is by far the worst software update for any phone I have ever used. Never seen battery life take such a hit like this. Is there any way I can go back to the old software? I never had any issues with it and wasn't really looking for an upgrade. Phone was working just fine the way it was. - 10-15-2011, 05:21 PM #88
Re: OTA: 10/12
Great, the OTA update messed up my phone.
I was a dummy and allowed it to try to install the update on my phone running HomeBase 4.2, now whenever I turn the phone on it loads up to the lock screen, shuts down, and tries to install the update on restart. The problem is that the update fails about 1/4th of the way through and just sits there with the picture of the robot with the warning sign above it forever (I left it for over 30 minutes and nothing happened.) and requires a battery pull to get out of. When you turn on the phone the process repeats itself.
Is there any way to fix this or should I just clear off the phone and reinstall the rom? Honestly it shouldn't take me more than an hour to get the phone back the way I had it before all this happened, but if there's another way to fix it I'd like to know. - 10-15-2011, 06:52 PM #89
You have to go into android recovery and wipe data/cache/dalvik cache. Then you have to download the latest SBF file (which you can find in the photon xda forums) and install the update manually that way. You will lose root and unlock, but its fairly easy to get it back

Re: OTA: 10/12
I disabled Widget Locker, battery life has returned to normal. Kind of a bummer, I like that app.

Re: OTA: 10/12
I just did the update today (was waiting for an update to the root method I used) and use widgetlocker as well. I've read that it causes major battery drain but haven't noticed anythign as of yet. I would sadden me to have to uninstall it

My battery life was worse at first, but seems like its stabilizing. I have noticed a huge upside since the update though. Not sure if its a coincidence and Road Runner beefed up my download speeds, but before the update I was getting like 12 - 13mb's/sec where as now I'm getting like 20. Anyone else experiencing this?
